Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
Item upgrade, also known as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment boosts a stat linearly.
Players can recycle up to six items at a time in order to gain a level gauge for each of the item's upgraded components. The cost of recycling items scales with their rarity and item level.
Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade to an item is a method to boost the stats of your weapon and armor. This can be accomplished by a variety of methods such as using upgrade components or increasing an item's rarity or mark level. In addition there are many items that can be reforged, which can boost their stats even more.
You can find upgradeable items throughout the game. They are available throughout all over the world and are rewards for missions. Players can also make them. The primary method to upgrade equipment is through the use of upgrade components, which are components that can be inserted into equipment. Most equipment has upgrade slots, and many require a certain level of upgrade. Certain upgrade components offer specific bonuses, while others offer general bonuses.
There are many types of upgrade components available in the game, such as universal upgrades, inscriptions, and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gemstones and enchantments can be placed on any type of equipment, and offer less than equipment-specific upgrades. Glyphs are only available in gathering tools and offer various bonuses, from increasing the speed of an item's gathering to supplying additional crafting materials.
To upgrade an item, click it in your inventory, then open the Upgrade window. The window will show an overview on the right side of the screen that shows the expected stats after the upgrade, as well as any required components or materials. If you don't possess enough of either the upgrade button will say Blocked.
The upper-right corner displays the amount of upgrade components needed for an item. The cost of an upgrade increases as the level and rarity of the item increases. However you can lower this cost by purchasing upgrades from a seller or trading them with other players.
Many weapons can be improved with a prefix, such as a rune, or an insignia, and others can be enhanced by adding the suffix. These upgrades alter the name of the item, adding an adjective, like "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor. There are some exceptions, however. the non-inscribable wands, the foci and shields from the Prophecies and Factions campaigns, that cannot be upgraded using any mods in any way.
Glyphs
Glyphs can be a powerful instrument for communicating visual information. They animate to capture the attention of the viewers and trigger interest in the brain. The animation of glyphs resembles body language, which makes them more effective in conveying a message across linguistic barriers. Glyphs also evoke a sense of familiarity in the brain, increasing retention of the message.
Each glyph can increase the value of a stat by certain amount. This is shown on the item's page when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This is the highest value that the glyph can increase a stat's value by, not the amount that it will actually increase it by. The value of the glyph is contingent on the tier and the quality of the item that you are admiring.
Most upgrade components inserted into items can't be repaired or replaced without dismantling the equipment in question, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a rune or glyph you do not want to use, but it's not been applied to the gear yet, you can transfer the item to another piece by selecting the Upgrade Glyphs menu on the Glyphs Panel. This will create a new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.
You can take out a glyph by using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. The item where the glyph is installed will be destroyed, however the upgraded item can be retrieved using the glyph shards.
When you remove an item after putting a glyph on it, the shards from that glyph will disappear. You can also apply an inscription to your equipment to add an additional benefit. For instance the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and deal it slowly instead of all at once. This can be helpful for players who are taking lots of damage from enemies, but do not want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens can be used to change the affixes that are placed on weapons and equipment. They can be obtained from a variety of sources, including mysterious boxes or rare drops from skulled monsters or by killing bosses. Each reroll token grants players a new random affix, which is usually better than the original one. Reroll tokens are also a good option to reroll stats on weapons, which can be upgraded to increase damage or additional perks.
Rerolled items are not listed in the menu of upgrade options, but they can be upgraded. Rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button, which changes the appearance of the window and allows up to six items to be chosen to recycle. Recycling an item adds a small amount of points to its gauge of level. The amount is by the item's rarity as well as its level. Therefore, items that are higher level are more valuable for recycling than items with lower levels.
In addition to tokens for rerolls players can also make use of Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to roll the traits of a weapon in an upgraded unit. item upgrader will determine the percentage chance of a weapon trait; if it rolls higher, the weapon is upgraded, and if it is lower, it remains the same. Weapons can be upgraded up to three times.
Rerolls are a great option to upgrade an item, but players must be aware that it can lower the overall ilvl of the weapon by the number of rerolls required to increase the weapon to its ultimate ilvl. This effect of lowering is most effective for ring items and Diadems that don't have other options for raising ilvls.
Players have complained that the reroll system is too expensive. It's more fair to allow players to pay for it with money or food items, which would allow them to make changes to their builds without having to spend too much time. The developers aren't planning to introduce paid rerolls at this stage in the game's development. Instead, they're planning add an option to change the race in the future.
Leveling
There are several ways to upgrade an item. The first method of leveling up an upgrade to an item is by increasing the upgrade amount. This boosts the value of upgrading any stat. The second is to boost the effect of upgrading, which increases the healing or damage of a given stat. Additionally you have the option to upgrade the base item to an upgrade type. Once this is done the new item will maintain its iLevel but it will be upgraded with the effects of the upgraded type of item.
It is important to remember that upgrades are not guaranteed. In most cases the chance of a better roll will result from glyphs, but there are also possibilities for greater or special rolls. In addition the iLevel of the upgrade will be determined by the item type and when you upgrade a unique or rare item to an exceptional item type you could get an iLevel that is higher.
Upgrades to items can be costly especially when you're upgrading a piece of equipment from the standard to legendary track. The cost of upgrading an item will depend on the iLevel it's built upon and the number of upgrade levels. Certain upgrade tracks require crests to be completed in order to move on to the next level.
If you're lucky the upgraded item will be at the highest level on its upgrade track, and will unlock an additional benefit. This will give the item a significant upgrade value. The bonus effect will change with each upgrade level. In general, the effect of upgrading is increased by +3.
The iLevel also changes depending on the item's upgrade path and base level. For instance, a weapon that is upgraded from a unique or rare to an exceptional item will be able to be upgraded to the Enhanced Defense of the new base item type.
