Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and boost additional stats.
Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a certain amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's basic stats increases when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each new level of item. These can also be increased by using anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, armor, and shields can be created or spawned with the Luck property, which has an initial value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck, or to increase the Luck of the item up to 140.
Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that deals damage by 5%. These items can be purchased from the shop or constructed using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Item upgrades are expensive and not every upgrade will be successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.
When you upgrade an item the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limits to how much the success rates can be improved and the probability of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..
The Luck of an item can also influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have an average success rate of 25 percent, and each item that has Luck increases this chance by five percent.
Note that item upgrades are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects can be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
