World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and boost additional stats.
Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a certain amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's basic stats increases when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly depending on the upgrader you choose and the type of upgrade you choose to perform. This is due to the number of perks that have to be changed in order to upgrade an item.
The level of an item is a popular measurement of power and is visible on all tooltips for items. It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is limited to the lower levels). Players can see their average level of items on their character sheet.
When deciding whether to buy or sell gear players can evaluate the level of an item. It's a useful indicator of an item's quality and the amount of damage it's capable of dealing with. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when evaluating the inventory of a seller.
On your PC, you can check the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the full description of the item, as well as its level. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.
There are several theories about how the level of an item is calculated. One theory says that the item level is calculated using formulas that determine the worth of an item's stats really are. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different values and gems in sockets increase the item's overall value. This process can result in a calculated amount for the item's level, which is usually quite close to Blizzard's real level of the item.
This isn't the only thing that affects the value of an item. The level of the area where the item was dropped may change its stats. For example, it could increase the item's haste, or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.
Item Stats
Item stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses them in many ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to one weapon and to encourage players to explore other weapons. item upgrading of a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modifications that are in turn boosted by the player's level.
The upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. A white or grey item for instance, will only be upgraded one time, while an item that has rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with higher costs.
Affixes can also be used to alter the stats of an item. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all sizes and shapes. The affixes can be used to give the item additional damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving the dead or cutting down the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by putting an additional name to the item.
At present, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by the arrows that circle. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold as well as items, which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other options for rerolling.
In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may select which stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However every item will include at least one stat within that range unless they are an exclusive item or the item is a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
item upgrading that could change is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to roll the affixes, or choose which stats to increase. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be performed on a per-item level, and the interface for comparing items will not show all the stats that could be gained or lost at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player boosts the probability of obtaining items, the properties that are generated by loot, and the strength of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players a chance to upgrade their gear in earlier waves and is therefore more valuable in the initial game run than in later ones, because most players value higher weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each new level of item. These can also be increased by using anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, armor, and shields can be created or spawned with the Luck property, which has an initial value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck, or to increase the Luck of the item up to 140.
Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that deals damage by 5%. These items can be purchased from the shop or constructed using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Item upgrades are expensive and not every upgrade will be successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.
When you upgrade an item the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limits to how much the success rates can be improved and the probability of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..
The Luck of an item can also influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have an average success rate of 25 percent, and each item that has Luck increases this chance by five percent.
Note that item upgrades are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects can be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
