Path of Exile Item Upgrades
The performance of a variety of Path of Exile items can be improved by upgrading their performance. They can be a fantastic source of extra damage or more AD or even more attachments.
Often times however upgraded Common and Magic gear is beaten out by Rare-grade gear due to their requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades are a kind of upgrade that can be used on weapon and armor items. They boost the performance of the item that they are attached to. Upgrades to armor can be found in the world of the game and are available from Blacksmiths on bonfires. Alternately, they can be salvaged from items with upgrade components inside them, with a professional or higher salvage kit.
The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it is able to take on. The upgrade of an armor piece to maximum upgrade level will increase its damage absorption. It is important to note that this will increase the weight of the armor, so it must be more heavy.
There are several types of armor upgrades available in the game and they all have distinct effects. Certain upgrades grant armor an extra number of health points while others make it lighter and more powerful. The type of armor upgrade that an item can receive will be indicated by the name of the upgrade, as indicated in the table below.
Some of the upgrades also require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, as identified by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Certain upgrades also require fees to use. They are referred to as "Charges" entries in the table. These charges are constantly updated or never expire depending on the upgrade.
Iron Ore is the cheapest way to upgrade your armor. You can find it by exploring and looting small treasure chests. Titanium is more costly, but can be found at the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, like the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied on high-level armor pieces. These upgrades can give players a significant increases in stats and are definitely worth the investment.
The player must be aware that upgrading a piece to the maximum upgrade level will boost its defense. However, it will also decrease its agility and its speed. Therefore, it is generally not recommended to upgrade the majority of armor pieces above +9, since the defensive boost gained is typically not worth the additional weight and power cost of the improvements required.
Weapons
Weapon upgrades let players increase the effectiveness of certain aspects of a weapon. For instance an upgrade could improve the damage that is caused by the shells of a shotgun or the accuracy of a rifle that snipes. Certain weapons also come with upgrades that enhance their inherent characteristics. These include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and minimizes the risk of overheating) and Kinetic Coils (increases projectile acceleration for more damage).
The majority of upgrades to weapons require three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons and a whetblade for applying. These can be obtained by finishing side quests, taking out a certain number of monsters or bosses, or through the Weapon Upgrade NPC in Central Flarine.
The process of upgrading a weapon, equipment Set piece or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade cost of a set number of Bars. The more bars you need to complete an upgrade, the higher the level. If you have multiple upgrade materials The cost of upgrading will be lower.
In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade your weapon and equipment sets has changed a bit. Prior to Chapter 2: Season 5, you could upgrade your weapon and equipment by paying a specific number of Bars. You could do this until your weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level and at that point, the upgrades would reset.
It's possible, but it is dependent heavily on RNG. You're better off buying gear with minimal upgrade levels but with high base scores and stat distributions. These items will have a better chance of giving you the highest tier benefits and blessings.
Most players will want to prioritize upgrades to the weapons they are most likely to use to allow them to progress quicker. Additionally, players should consider upgrading the weapons favored by their squadmates to increase their power as well. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R to make it more useful when accompanied by experts in biotics like Grunt and Tali.
Jewels
Jewels are placed in the sockets of armor and weapons, enhancing a stat and providing secondary effects. Jewelry crafting is a method for making them, where you combine gemstones with specific reagents in a jewelry table. The higher the grade of the jewel has, the more powerful its secondary effect. These reagents are obtained in the world from Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and, sometimes, by salvaging Legendary equipment. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.
The quality of a jewel can be improved by the Jeweler, with stages that vary from Crude to Royal. The stat boosts can vary according to the tier that the jewel is at when it's slotted into jewelry, weapons, or other gear.
All kinds of jewels are crafted at the Jeweler and Jeweler's Workshop, with the exception of the rare and legendary jewels which require you to be at a sufficient level to obtain the privilege of having them. Unlike other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped by a different jewel of the same kind without damaging the original one. However, you can only replace the jewels in an item of equipment once.
The use of more jewels in the movement will make it feel smoother, and is often done for aesthetic reasons. In addition to enhancing performance, the jewels create an area that is stronger than metal, which means that repeated friction from pivots doesn't cause damage as easily.
A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs to enhance the appearance of your shields and weapons. They offer a small benefit and can be swapped out at any time but aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs are like jewelry and can be upgraded by the Jeweler to exchange gold and Scattered Crystals. Glyphs can also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components like aegis or traits cannot be exchanged, and can only be retrieved by using an Upgrade extractor or salvaging using Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage tool.
Trinkets
Trinkets are a great way to provide your hero with various small, but valuable, benefits. They can be obtained in the areas of starting as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, or by performing road interactions. They can be purchased from the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.
The first trinket a player can unlock is the cloak, which gives an unimportant but beneficial boost in speed of movement and evasion. The player can then acquire rings, amulets and necklaces in a similar manner similar to how they obtained weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has an upgrade slot that can be either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and are able to be used on any piece of equipment. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced, and can only be used with certain trinkets.
These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't fighting. This allows the hero to be more efficient while inactive. It can also compensate for the lack of a strong slot in the talent tree or team which would normally be filled by the hero's best stats.
As a general rule trinket upgrades should be a priority BiS (Best in Slot) items you won't replace anytime soon. Next, any items with desirable stats that aren't as important as the iLevel for the item to be upgraded. This is true especially if you are looking to upgrade multiple stats on an item. item upgrading 's more beneficial to upgrade a single important stat than two less important ones.
In the beginning of the game players who are in the jungle will typically want to upgrade their yellow trinket into a red one, while top and middle players usually choose the pink or green ward (depending on the matchup). These choices can impact the ability of a hero to control the map.
Aside from the items mentioned above, players may also find a number of other trinkets in the game in the form of awards and trophies. These can be obtained by completing certain milestones within the story, for instance completing a chapter's main quest or destroying a boss. You can see them by selecting the achievement from the reward section of the hero's menu.
