Unlike other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped by a different jewel of the same kind without damaging the original one. However, you can only replace the jewels in an item of equipment once.

Trinkets are a great way to provide your hero with various small, but valuable, benefits. They can be obtained in the areas of starting as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, or by performing road interactions. They can be purchased from the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.
The first trinket a player can unlock is the cloak, which gives an unimportant but beneficial boost in speed of movement and evasion. The player can then acquire rings, amulets and necklaces in a similar manner similar to how they obtained weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has an upgrade slot that can be either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and are able to be used on any piece of equipment. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced, and can only be used with certain trinkets.
These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't fighting. This allows the hero to be more efficient while inactive. It can also compensate for the lack of a strong slot in the talent tree or team which would normally be filled by the hero's best stats.
