81), cholesterol(0.61), and carbohydrate (0.61), with the lowest for sodium (0.29), thiamin (0.33), and niacinequivalents (0.34). More than three quarters of the participants were correctly classified into thesame or adjacent quartile for most nutrients, with a low proportion of participants being grosslymisclassified ( less then 10%). For most nutrients, the limits of agreement from the Bland-Altman analyseswere between 50% and 250%. A positive correlation was observed between dietary intakes andplasma biomarkers for all selected nutrients. The FFQ showed moderate to good reproducibility, with almost all reliability coefficients ranging from 0.60 to 0.80. This short FFQ was shown to validlyand reliably rank individuals by their habitual intake of most major nutrients, indicating that theFFQ will offer a time-efficient way to assess the nutrient intake of NZ adults in future research.Women-specific cancers are a major health issue, particularly those associated with the BRCA1 germline mutation carrier state, which include triple-negative basal breast carcinomas and high-grade serous ovarian carcinomas (referred to as extra-uterine Müllerian carcinomas). Whereas many chronic diseases can currently be prevented (e.g., cardiovascular diseases), no recent tangible progress was made in cancer prevention of BRCA1 mutation carriers apart from surgical resections of at-risk organs. This lack of progress is largely due to (1) poor understanding of the initiating events triggered by known risk factors in the development of these cancers, (2) the fact that current preventive measures rely on evidence obtained from adjuvant breast cancer treatment that fail to protect against poor prognostic cancers, and (3) problems with using cancer incidence in high-risk women as an ethically justifiable endpoint in cancer prevention trials. Here, we propose that cancer predisposition in BRCA1 mutation carriers is driven, at least in part, by cell-nonautonomous mechanisms (i.e., driven by consequences of this carrier state on hormonal and other systemic factors controlled in organs other than those that are cancer-prone) and that biomarkers of epigenomic reprogramming, hypothesized to be a direct consequence of such cell-nonautonomous mechanisms, are attractive as intermediate surrogate endpoints to assess the efficacy of cancer risk-reducing strategies targeting these mechanisms. The electric field response of the lead-free solid solution (1-x)Bi0.53Na0.47TiO3-xBaTiO3 (BNT-BT) in the higher BT composition range with x = 0.12 was investigated using in situ synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction. An introduced Bi-excess non-stoichiometry caused an extended morphotropic phase boundary, leading to an unexpected fully reversible relaxor to ferroelectric (R-FE) phase transformation behavior. By varying the field frequency in a broad range from 10-4 up to 102 Hz, BNT-12BT showed a frequency-dependent gradual suppression of the field induced ferroelectric phase transformation in favor of the relaxor state. A frequency triggered self-heating within the sample was found and the temperature increase exponentially correlated with the field frequency. The effects of a lowered phase transformation temperature TR-FE, caused by the non-stoichiometric composition, were observed in the experimental setup of the freestanding sample. This frequency-dependent investigation of an R-FE phase transformation is unlike previous macroscopic studies, in which heat dissipating metal contacts are used.BACKGROUND Fruits and vegetables are generally rich in antioxidants such as carotenoids. Consumption of carotenoids is expected to have benefits on cognitive functions in humans. However, previous randomized controlled trials (RCT) using carotenoids have reported inconsistent results. Therefore, this systematic review (SR) aimed to summarize the effect of carotenoid intake on cognitive functions in humans. Zotatifin purchase METHOD PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and PsychoINFO were searched for research papers on carotenoid intake with the criteria that 1) oral carotenoid intake was evaluated using RCTs, 2) participants were healthy young, middle-aged, or older, and 3) cognitive functions were measured using RCTs. RESULTS Five studies using lutein and two studies using astaxanthin met the inclusion criteria. Consumption of lutein and its isomer showed consistent results in selective improvement of visual episodic memory in young and middle-aged adults while inhibition was observed in middle-aged and older adults. One of the two included astaxanthin studies reported a significant improvement of verbal episodic memory performance in middle-aged adults. CONCLUSION This SR showed that the 10 mg lutein per day for twelve months can lead to improvement of cognitive functions. Due to the small number of studies, it is difficult to conclude whether astaxanthin would have a positive effect on cognitive functions.BACKGROUND Treating cancer according to its molecular alterations (i.e., targeted treatment, TT) is the goal of precision medicine tumor boards (PTBs). Their clinical applicability has been evaluated for ovarian cancer patients in this analysis. METHODS All consecutive ovarian cancer patients discussed in a PTB at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria, from April 2015 to April 2019 were included (n = 44). RESULTS In 38/44 (86%) cases, at least one mutation, deletion or amplification was detected. The most frequently altered genes were p53 (64%), PI3K pathway (18%), KRAS (14%), BRCA1 (11%) and BRCA2 (2%). In 31 patients (70%) a TT was recommended. A total of 12/31 patients (39%) received the recommended therapy. Median time from indication for PTB to TT start was 65 days (15-216). Median time to treatment failure was 2.7 months (0.2-13.2). Clinical benefit rate (CBR) was 42%. Reasons for treatment discontinuation were disease progression (42%), poor performance status (PS > 2; 25%), death (17%) or treatment related side effects (8%). In 61% the TT was not administered-mainly due to PS > 2. CONCLUSION Even though a TT recommendation can be derived frequently, clinical applicability remains limited due to poor patients' general condition after exploitation of standard treatment. However, we observed antitumor activity in a substantial number of heavily pretreated patients.
