The present study used multivariate techniques, to analyze the fish species diversity and distribution patterns in order to determine the possible role of environmental parameters as drivers of fish community structure and composition in the Yangtze River Estuary (YRE). This analysis was conducted using data obtained in the YRE from February 2012 to December 2014. Analysis of the catch data showed that species composition, total density, and total biomass varied significantly between stations and seasons. Thirty-eight species belonging to 18 families were collected. Sciaenidae was the most dominant family accounting for 40.8% of total captured specimens. In descending order, Collichthys lucidus, Cynoglossus gracilis, Chaeturichthys stigmatias, and Lophiogobius ocellicauda dominated catches in the YRE. These four species constituted 64.2% of the total catches and showed average dissimilarities of 74.19% between stations and 81.3% between months. The highest number of fish specimens captured was recorded in August 2012 while the highest species richness was observed in December 2013. The mean fish density and biomass for the YRE was 0.35 individuals/m2 and 2.5 g/m2, respectively. The mean density and biomass for the most important and dominant species changed significantly between stations and seasons. Canonical correspondence analysis indicated that salinity and chlorophyll-a were the key variables that structured the fish assemblage in the YRE. High total species density and biomass were recorded in high saline stations (North Branch) of the YRE. This study confirms that most species captured in the YRE needs estuarine conditions to complete their growth and development. Hence, the findings in this study are important to understanding and developing suitable conservation plans for the management of fish resources in the YRE.The present study was aimed to explore the cardio-, immuno-, and nephrotoxic effects of the antipsychotic agent clozapine (CLZ) and the alleviative potency of sulpiride (SPD) on these impairments in rats. For this purpose, 40 male rats were divided into four groups and were orally treated with saline (control), CLZ (0.5 mg/kg bw), SPD (28 mg/kg bw), or a combination of CLZ and SPD (CLZ+SPD), daily for 30 consecutive days. At necropsy, blood samples and specimens from the heart, kidneys, and spleen were collected for biochemical, molecular, and histopathological investigations. The results showed that CLZ administration was associated with significantly lower immune status indices and increased serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, lactate dehydrogenase, malondialdehyde, cardiac, and renal tissues injury markers. Moreover, the mRNA expression levels of Kidney Injury Molecule-1 (Kim-1), tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1), and cytochrome P450 (CYP) isoforms were markedly upregulated in CLZ-treated rats, compared to the control group. On the other hand, rats treated with SPD alone showed non-significant differences in terms of immune response indices, tissue injury markers, and mRNA expression levels of Kim-1, TIMP-1, and CYP isoforms. Finally, CLZ+SPD co-treatment significantly modulated almost all biochemical indices. Besides, Kim-1, TIMP-1, and CYP2C19 mRNA expression levels were significantly downregulated, while other CYP isoforms showed no modulation, compared with CLZ-treated group. Histopathologically, CLZ-treated rats showed severe lesions in renal, splenic, and cardiac tissues, compared with control rats, which were restored in CLZ+SPD-co-treated rats. Overall, these findings demonstrate that CLZ treatment induces significant cardiac, immune, and nephropathic alterations, which were reduced with CLZ+SPD co-treatment.Nasser Lake provides more than 95% of the Egyptian freshwater budget. The levels, spatial distributions, and risk assessments of heavy metals and natural radioactivity were investigated in the water and sediments in the main channel and khors (side extensions) of Nasser Lake in January 2017. Several indices were used to determine the quality and pollution degree of the water and sediments. The water indices included the heavy metal pollution index and metal contamination index, while the sediment indices were based on the (a) the metal levels as the enrichment factor and geo-accumulation index, and (b) the radioactivity as radium equivalent activity, absorbed dose rate, and external hazard indices. All index values were lower than their global mean values. Also, the results of the noncarcinogenic human health risk via water ingestion were below the threshold risk level. The obtained results indicate the safely used of Nasser Lake water for different purposes.Water treatment sludge (WTS) is abundantly produced in the world; the waste contributes to the environmental problems. Therefore, for WTS utilization, aluminum leaching was employed using hydrochloric acid in this study. Al leaching efficiency increased from 72% to 80% as hydrochloric acid concentration increased from 1 to 4 M. Thiomyristoyl mw Decreasing the particle size and increasing the temperature increased Al leaching efficiency. The proposed kinetic model revealed that the rate-controlling step followed a series of two leaching mechanisms initially controlled by product-layer diffusion and then by a chemically controlled reaction. For instance, at 70 °C, the initial stage is well fitted by product-layer diffusion (R2 = 0.87) compared to R2 = 0.60 for chemical reaction; while for the second stage, R2 = 0.95 was observed via chemical reaction compared to R2 = 0.74 for product-layer diffusion. The activation energies in these two stages were 9.58 kJ/mol and 10.73 kJ/mol, respectively. The proposed model was well validated by using data from literature and thus will be useful for other applications of leaching and extraction processes.Giving that People's Republic of China is one of the two new frontiers of globalization, the country has continued to contend with the bottleneck of sustaining its economic growth amidst environmental hiccups arising from the drawbacks of globalization and energy consumption. By investigating the challenges of the country's drive toward environmental sustainability, the present study offers a new perspective on the role of electricity consumption and economic growth in a carbon-income function setting. This study also incorporates globalization into CO2 emissions equation for the experimental period of 1970-2014. Stationarity properties were ascertained by the Zivot and Andrew unit root test under a single structural break. Subsequently, the recent and novel combined cointegration test of Bayer and Hanck (2013) in conjunction with the Pesaran bounds testing approach is used to establish a cointegration relationship among the selected variables. Finally, the modified Wald test of the Toda-Yamamoto Granger causality test is employed to detect the direction of causality flows among the variables.
