We reformulate the Coxian models (standard Coxian, Coxian with multiple absorbing states, joint Coxian, and conditional Coxian) to take into account heterogeneity in patient characteristics such as arrival mode, time of admission, and age. The approach differs from previous research in that it reduces the computational time, and it allows the inclusion of patient covariate information directly into the model. The current experiment examined whether fathers and their 5- to 6-year-old children (N = 66) synchronize their brain activity during a naturalistic interaction, and addressed paternal and child factors related to INS. Compared to individual problem solving and rest, father-child dyads showed increased INS in bilateral dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and left temporo-parietal junction during cooperative problem solving. Furthermore, the father's attitude toward his role as a parent was positively related to INS during the cooperation condition. These results highlight the implication of the father's attitude to parenting in INS processes for the first time.
Lumbar syringomyelia (SM), lumbosacral pain, and more caudal spinal cord termination are reported in Cavalier King Charles spaniels (CKCS). Data are lacking on the clinical relevance of alterations in their spinal cord terminal structures.
To compare spinal cord termination level and filum terminale internum length (FTIL) with presence of lumbar SM and clinical signs in CKCS.

In this prospective study, pain was quantified using owner and clinician assessments. Vertebral level of spinal cord and dural sac termination, presence of SM, and FTIL were determined from sagittal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sequences. Kappa and intraclass correlation (ICC) analyses determined interobserver reliability. The MRI findings were compared to owner and clinician-reported pain quantification.
Interobserver reliability was good for spinal cord and dural sac termination (kappa = 0.61 and 0.64, respectively) and excellent for FTIL (ICC 92% agreement). The spinal cord terminated at 6th lumbar vertebra in 1, 7th lumbar vertebra in 31, and the sacrum in 15 dogs, and termination level was associated with lumbar SM (P = .002) but not clinical signs. Mean FTIL was 2.9 ± 1.08 mm; it was associated with owner-reported pain (P = .033) and spinal palpation scores (P = .023). Painful CKCS without SM had shorter FTIL compared to normal CKCS and painful CKCS with SM (P = .02).

Information entropy used for estimating nucleotide usage pattern at the gene level indicates that multiple evolutionary dynamics participate in forcing nucleotide usage bias at every codon position. Moreover, nucleotide usage bias directly contributes to synonymous codon usage biases with two different extremes. The overrepresented codons tended to have A/T in the third codon position, and the underrepresented codons strongly used G/C in the third position. Furthermore, correspondence analysis and neutrality plot reflect an obvious interplay between mutation pressure and natural selection mediating codon usage in M. hyorhinis genome. Due to significant bias in usages between A/T and G/C at the gene level, different selective forces have been proposed to contribute to codon usage preference in M. hyorhinis genome, including nucleotide composition constraint derived from mutation pressure, translational selection involved in natural selection, and strand-specific mutational bias represented by different nucleotide skew index.
