To perform a systematic review with meta-analysis to investigate the utility of post-treatment PET/CT specifically in HPV-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma following curative intent treatment.
Random-effects meta-analysis was used to pool data from 7 observational studies (2013-2019) obtained from a database search of PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE using an a priori protocol with dual independent evaluation for inclusion, risk of bias assessment for acceptable methodology, and extraction of data for analysis. PET/CT results, treatment failure, imaging and interventions subsequent to PET/CT findings, and efficacy of salvage therapy were extracted.
Of the 907 post-treatment scans, PET/CT results were largely negative (76.2%; 95% CI, 63.4-85.6) and least often positive (11.3%; 95% CI, 8.8-14.4). PET/CT results were equivocal for 22.5% (95% CI, 12.5-36.9) and equivocal/positive for 34.2% of patients (95% CI, 25.1-44.5). Patients with an initial positive scan had the highest treatment fail frequently leading to unnecessary subsequent imaging and intervention.This study's purpose was to describe changes in symptom distress and fatigue characteristics identifying which symptoms significantly impacted fatigue characteristics of patients with Gastric Cancer (GC) within 1 month after gastrectomy. A prospective longitudinal study was conducted. Patients with GC who were scheduled for gastrectomy were recruited from surgical outpatient clinics and surgery wards in northern Taiwan. Data were collected using a set of questionnaires before (T0) and 7 (T1) and 28 days (T2) after gastrectomy. Over all, 86 patients experienced mild levels of fatigue and symptom distress. The changes in worst fatigue and fatigue interference were greatest at T1. Anxiety had a significant negative effect on both worst fatigue and fatigue interference. Dry mouth, pain, and body image had significant deleterious effects on worst fatigue. The co-occurring symptoms affecting fatigue for patients with GC in the acute phase after gastrectomy should be actively assessed to ensure optimal fatigue management.
Vestibular paroxysmia (VP) is a condition with recurrent short bouts of vertigo and is thought to be part of a neurovascular compression syndrome caused by the vascular loop. However, this is still being debated as vascular loops are considered as normal variants with limited studies involving vertiginous patients.
The aim of this paper is to study the association between audiovestibular symptoms and the presence of vascular loops and to study the association between vestibular paroxysmia and vascular loops.
This is a retrospective analysis of clinical, audiological and MRI findings of patients with and without vascular loops and vestibular paroxysmia from 2000 to 2020.
A total of 470 MRI Internal Auditory Meatus scans were performed during the study period of which, 71 (15.1%) had vascular loops and 162 (34.5%) had normal MRI which were used as controls. From the 233 subjects recruited, there were 37 subjects with VP and 196 non VP subjects were used as controls. There was no association between the vascular loop and control groups in terms of co-morbidity and audiovestibular symptoms. The VP group had a significantly older mean age of 51.8 (SD ± 10.3) as compared to the non VP group with the mean age of 45.6 (SD ± 15.5). The VP group had higher number of patients presenting with hearing loss at 97.3% when compared with those without VP (80.1%) (
= .01). The odds of having a vascular loop giving rise to VP was not statistically significant at 0.82 (95% CI 0.3735-1.7989)

The vascular loop is a normal variant which may or may not give rise to audiovestibular symptoms or vestibular paroxysmia. Clinical assessment is still most important tool in deriving a diagnosis of VP and MRI may be useful to rule out other central causes.

When a Leidos employee lost his son to an opioid overdose, he wrote an impassioned email to the CEO, asking him to take action related to the growing societal problem of opioid use disorders. The CEO understood and accepted this important call to action. Leidos' subsequent efforts included supporting employees and families, as well as community outreach, eventually broadening to include mental health and well-being. This paper outlines the company's efforts to combat opioid use disorders, understanding that they sit within a larger total worker health umbrella inclusive of mental health and well-being. The hope is that this ongoing journey and its exemplars are helpful for other organizations seeking to make an impact for their employees and society.The workplace is a key environment to impact employees, families, and communities to prevent further opioid and substance misuse, addiction, and overdose. However, it is often overlooked as an ideal location to launch a prevention intervention or support strategy. Employees in recovery, seeking treatment, and dealing with mental distress require employer support. Supports should consider the diversity of the work force and be culturally appropriate. Moreover, we address considerations for biological samples and data collection, the importance of standardization in the preanalytical phase, data protection (ethical and legal) and the role of donors in improving research in this field.Angelica dahurica (Fisch. ex Hoffm.) is an abundantly cultivated Chinese herbal medicine plant in China with about 4000 hectares grown, the annual production is up to 24,000 tons. The medicinal part of A. dahurica is its root, and mainly function for treat cold, headache, toothache, rhinitis, diabetes, etc. Besides, A. dahurica is also used as a spice in Asia. In September 2018, brown spot was observed on the leaves of A. dahurica in fields of Anguo City, Hebei Province, China. In the field investigated, the incidence of brown spot disease reached 15%. The infected leaves showed brown spots surrounded with pale yellow edge, resulting in withered of the whole leaf. It seriously endangers the growth of A. dahurica, reducing the yield and quality of medicinal materials, even leading to the death of plants. We isolated the pathogen from 10 leaves with same lesions, the small square leaf pieces of approximately 3 to 5 mm were obtained with the sterile scissors from the junction of infected and healthy tissues, ste constructed a phylogenetic tree by combining TEF sequence and ITS sequence to distinguish the relationship between the pathogen and other minor species in the genus Alternaria, the isolate was clustered in the Alternaria clade. Therefore, the pathogen was identified as A. tenuissima based on the morphological characteristics and molecular identification. To our knowledge, this is the first report of A. tenuissima causing leaf spot on A. dahurica in China.Cruciferous weeds have been shown to harbor diverse Xanthomonas campestris pathovars, including the agronomically-damaging black rot of cabbage pathogen, Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris. However, the importance of weeds as inoculum sources for X. campestris pv. campestris outbreaks in New York remains unknown. In order to determine if cruciferous weeds act as primary reservoirs for X. campestris pv. campestris, fields that were rotating between cabbage or that had severe black rot outbreaks were chosen for evaluation. Over a consecutive three-year period, 148 cruciferous and non-cruciferous weed samples were collected at 34 unique sites located across five New York counties. Of the 148 weed samples analyzed, 48 X. campestris isolates were identified, with a subset characterized using multilocus sequence analysis. All X. campestris isolates originated from weeds belonging to the Brassicaceae family with predominant weed hosts being shepherd's purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris), wild mustard (Sinapis arvensis), yellow rocket (Barbarea vulgaris), and pennycress (Thlaspi arvense). Identifying pathogenic X. campestris weed isolates was rare with only eight isolates causing brown necrotic leaf spots or typical V-shaped lesions on cabbage. There was no evidence of cabbage infecting weed isolates persisting in an infected field by overwintering in weed hosts; however, similar cabbage and weed X. campestris haplotypes were identified in the same field during an active black rot outbreak. see more Xanthomonas campestris weed isolates are genetically diverse both within and between fields, but our findings indicate that X. campestris weed isolates do not appear to act as primary sources of inoculum for B. oleracea fields in New York.Apple growers in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States have reported increased losses to bitter rot of apple. We tested the hypothesis that this increase is because the Colletotrichum population has developed resistance to commonly used single-mode-of-action (single-MoA) fungicides. We screened 220 Colletotrichum isolates obtained from 38 apple orchards in the Mid-Atlantic region for resistance to 11 fungicides in FRAC (Fungicide Resistance Action Committee) groups 1, 7, 9, 11, 12, and 29. Eleven (5%) of these isolates were resistant to FRAC group 1 with confirmed beta-tubulin E198A mutations, and two ( less then 1%) were also resistant to FRAC group 11 with confirmed cytochrome-b G143A mutations. Such low frequencies of resistant isolates indicate that fungicide resistance is unlikely to be the cause of any regional increase in bitter rot. A subsample of isolates was subsequently tested in vitro for sensitivity to every single-MoA fungicide registered for apple in the Mid-Atlantic US (22 fungicides; FRAC groups 1, 3, 7, 9, 11, 12, and 29), and thirteen fungicides were tested in field trials.
