This study aimed to evaluate the relationship of the percentage decrease of maximal esophageal wall thickness with pathological complete response (pCR) and recurrence in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).
A total of 146 ESCC patients treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NCRT) and surgery were included. The prognostic factors for overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were analyzed. The recurrence site, time, and frequency were included in the analysis. The percentage decrease of maximal esophageal wall thickness after NCRT was determined with the formula [(pre-post)/pre] × 100.
Overall, only 42 patients achieved pCR. Multivariable logistic analyses showed that the percentage decrease of maximal esophageal wall thickness (HR 2.504; 95% CI 1.112-5.638, P=0.027) was independently correlated with pCR. In multivariable Cox analyses, a ≤40% percentage decrease of maximal esophageal wall thickness was an independent adverse factor for both OS (HR 1.907, 95% CI 1.149-3.165; P=0.012ndently predict prognosis.
Xp11.2 translocation renal cell carcinoma (Xp11.2 tRCC) is a distinct subtype of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) characterized by chromosomal translocations involving TFE3 gene. TFE3 break-apart fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) assay is an effective tool to diagnose Xp11.2 tRCC. The aim of this study is to evaluate the correlation between split signal pattern in FISH and the clinicopathological characteristics of Xp11.2 tRCC.
We reviewed 2037 RCC patients who underwent partial nephrectomy or radical nephrectomy from January 2007 to March 2020 in our institution. Forty-nine cases were diagnosed as Xp11.2 tRCC and their split signal patterns were evaluated. X-tile software was used to determine the optimal cut-off value of the percentage of split signal in FISH. Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox regression analysis were performed to assess the relationship between signal pattern of FISH and the prognosis.
Among the 49 patients, 13 patients and 36 patients were classified into high and low split signal group, respectively. Nine cases showed extra amplification signal pattern and 40 cases showed typical translocation signal pattern. check details Multivariate analysis demonstrated that high percentage of split signal and amplification signal pattern were the independent predictors for progression-free survival (PFS) whereas only pT stage was associated independently with overall survival (OS).

This study was retrospectively evaluated the outcome of postoperative intensity modulation radiotherapy (IMRT) for patients with adenoid cystic carcinoma of head and neck (ACCHN), and identified the unfavorable prognostic factors.
Fifty-five ACCHN patients treated in Sichuan Cancer Hospital between January 2007 and December 2016 were retrospectively evaluated. Median age of patient was 47 years (range, 21-73 years). Thirty-five patients were male and 20 were female. In 30 patients, tumors were located in major salivary glands (54.5%), and 25 patients in minor salivary glands (45.5%). The numbers of R0, R1, and R2 surgical resection classification patients were 22 (40.0%), 20 (36.4%), and 13 (23.6%). The median total RT dose was 62 Gy (range, 46-72 Gy), and 54.5% of patients were treated with adjuvant chemotherapy. Statistical analyses were performed using the Log rank test for univariate analysis and the Cox proportional hazard model for multivariate analysis.

Hypertension is an emerging public health problem in many low- and middle-income countries including Ethiopia. However, there are limited studies and data are scarce in these countries, particularly in Ethiopia. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of hypertension and its associated factors in this study area.
A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Areka town. Multi-stage sampling technique was used to select 581 adults. Information on socio-demographic data, behavioral and dietary habits, and family history of hypertension were collected using face-to-face interview. Measurements of weight, height, and blood pressure were taken using digital weighing scale, Stadio-meter, and digital sphygmomanometer respectively. Data were entered and cleaned in Epi-Data version 3.1, and exported to SPSS version 20 for analysis. Binary logistic regressions were done and odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals were calculated to identify associated factors.

Neuropathic pain (NeP) is common among patients with chronic pain associated with spine diseases. Practical effectiveness of pregabalin, one of the first-line treatments for NeP, has not been evaluated in an entire population of patients with spine diseases, including various pathophysiological conditions. This pooled analysis aimed to evaluate the therapeutic value of pregabalin for chronic pain with NeP component in patients with spine diseases in routine primary care settings.
We pooled data from two 8-week prospective observational cohort studies for patients with chronic low back pain with accompanying lower limb pain (NeP component), and patients with chronic cervical pain and accompanying upper limb radiating pain (NeP component) in routine primary care settings in Japan. For both studies, patients were treated for 8 weeks with pregabalin (alone/with other analgesics) or usual care with conventional analgesics (eg, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). Changes in pain numerical rating scale (NRS), Pain-Related Sleep Interference Scale (PRSIS), and EuroQol 5-dimension 5-level (EQ-5D-5L) scores from baseline to week 8 were summarized and compared between the pregabalin and usual care groups, and also for subgroups of primary diagnosis.
