FAM3C is a member of the FAM3 family. Recently, overexpression of FAM3C has been reported in numerous types of cancer, including breast and colon cancer. Increasing evidence suggests that elevated FAM3C and its altered subcellular localization are closely associated with tumor formation, invasion, metastasis and poor survival. Moreover, FAM3C has been found to be the regulator of various proteins that associate with cancer, including Ras, STAT3, TGF-β and LIFR. This review summarizes the current knowledge regarding FAM3C, including its structure, expression patterns, regulation, physiological roles and regulatory functions in various malignancies. These findings highlight the importance of FAM3C in cancer development and provide evidence that FAM3C is a novel biomarker and potential therapeutic target for various cancers.Purpose To compare and analyze the incidence of postoperative reflux esophagitis (RE) in patients with early- and intermediate-stage proximal gastric cancer after proximal gastrectomy plus esophagus-remnant stomach anterior wall anastomosis with proper spacing between the reserved anastomotic stoma and the stump of the remnant stomach versus total gastrectomy plus Roux-en-Y anastomosis and to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of these anastomosis approaches. Methods Hospitalization data of 23 patients with early- and intermediate-stage proximal gastric cancer were retrospectively analyzed. They were divided into an observation group who underwent proximal gastrectomy plus esophagus-remnant stomach anterior wall anastomosis with proper spacing between the reserved anastomotic stoma and the stump of the remnant stomach and a control group who underwent total gastrectomy plus Roux-en-Y anastomosis. Quality observation indicators were compared between the two groups. Results There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in the number of lymph nodes cleared or the recurrence rate at 12 months postoperatively. The incidence of postoperative RE was significantly lower in the observation group (25%) than in the control group (80%). The operation time, postoperative length of hospital stay, appetite change, body mass index, and hemoglobin level at 6 months postoperatively were significantly better in the observation group than in the control group (P less then .05). Conclusion Proximal gastrectomy plus esophagus-remnant stomach anterior wall anastomosis with proper spacing between the reserved anastomotic stoma and the stump of the remnant stomach can be used as a preferred surgical procedure for early- and mid-stage proximal gastric cancer.Background Parents may consider interrupting breastfeeding to manage neonatal jaundice (NJ). Our aims were to determine correlations of breastfeeding with NJ by examining infants' manifestations in the first week after birth and to understand parents' perceptions toward NJ in relation to breastfeeding. Materials and Methods This prospective cross-sectional study was conducted in a tertiary medical center by examining infants and administering a questionnaire survey to their parents. All healthy infants admitted to the well-baby nursery were eligible for enrollment. A 16-item questionnaire was distributed to parents of enrolled infants from October 2017 to February 2019. Items of the questionnaire included perceptions and knowledge of NJ. In addition, clinical information of enrolled infants was obtained from medical records. Hyperbilirubinemia was defined as a peak transcutaneous bilirubinometer value ≥15 mg/dL. Results In total, 449 parents completed the consent form and participated in the study. Results showed that exclusive breastfeeding was more common in infants with a vaginal delivery (p 7% (p less then 0.001). There was no significant correlation of exclusive breastfeeding with hyperbilirubinemia (p = 0.414). Approximately two-thirds of parents were worried about NJ occurring in their child. Most parents were aware of phototherapy as management of NJ. However, their knowledge of risk factors, complications, and assessments of NJ was relatively deficient. Overall, 29.6% of parents rated breastfeeding as a risk factor for NJ, and 24% of parents indicated that cessation of breastfeeding was a management option for NJ. Conclusions The results indicated that NJ in the first few days after birth poses a significant barrier to breastfeeding. Our findings provide critical information for plotting strategies to enhance parents' willingness to continue breastfeeding.In this study, a Crossed Flexural Hinge (CFH) structure was used for the design of a humanoid robot hand that can absorb any abrupt external force and that has a large payload, giving it the advantages of both rigid and compliant robots. Structural problems were identified through a 6 × 6 stiffness matrix to analyze whether CFH is suitable for use as an anthropomorphic robot hand. To reinforce the weak stiffness, a paired CFH (p-CFH) structure was proposed for the robot hand joints. In addition, it was verified through theoretical and experimental methods that p-CFH has superior stiffness characteristics compared to conventional CFH. When designing the anthropomorphic robot hand, p-CFH was appropriately deformed and applied. Using an underactuated wire mechanism suitable for the structure of the robot hand, it was possible to grasp objects of various shapes in a shape-adaptive manner. It was confirmed that the final anthropomorphic robot hand was able to stably hold an object of an unspecified shape without precisely controlling the motor. And the robot hand can also hold a heavy object due to the increased rigidity of the p-CFH. In addition, by conducting the qualitative impact test in which the robot was subjected to an impact in an arbitrary direction, it was confirmed that the robot, due to compliance of the joints, can absorb impact without incurring damage.
