In this review, we overviewed the studies about stem cell therapy for ischemic brain injury. Different types of stem cells used for transplantation as well as the therapeutic mechanisms were discussed in detail. The related pre-clinical and clinical trials were summarized into two separate tables. In addition, we also discussed the unsolved problems and concerns about stem cell therapy for ischemic brain injury that need to be overcome before clinic transformation. In order to investigate the clinical features of pregnant women and their neonates with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and the evidence of vertical transmission of COVID-19, we retrieved studies included in PubMed, Medline and Chinese databases from January 1, 2000 to October 25, 2020 using relevant terms, such as 'COVID-19', 'vertical transmission' et al. in 'Title/Abstract'. Case reports and case series were included according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. We conducted literature screening and data extraction, and performed literature bias risk assessment. Total of 13 case series and 16 case reports were collected, including a total of 564 pregnant women with COVID-19 and their 555 neonates, of which 549 neonates received nucleic acid test for the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and 18 neonates was diagnosed with COVID-19. The positive rate is 3.28%. Amniotic fluid of one woman was tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. The majority of infected neonates were born under strict infection control and received isolation and artificial feeding. Up till now, there is no sufficient evidence to exclude the possibility of vertical transmission for COVID-19 based on the current available data.
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Chinese children and adolescents have been greatly affected by the strict social isolation policies, which will undoubtedly cause psychological problems. We aimed to investigate the mental health status of Chinese children and adolescents, and provided some considerations of the contributing factors and the coping strategy.
We investigated the disease composition ratio of sigh syndrome in the pediatric outpatient clinic in Chengdu after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and outbreak mitigation. We also analyzed and compared the annual changing trends in the incidence of sigh syndrome in 2020 with those from previous years.
The composition ratio of sigh syndrome increased significantly after the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. The highest incidence was in March 2020, which then decreased gradually over the next few months, then increased again in June 2020 (P<0.05). And the 4-7 years old was the age group with a high incidence of sigh syndrome, and 5 years old had the highest incidence.
The mental health status of children and adolescents changed significantly after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. We should also pay attention to the psychological problems caused by returning to school after the epidemic has eased.

(MP) is one of the most common respiratory pathogens of community acquired pneumonia (CAP) in children. The purpose of this study was to identify epidemics of
pneumonia (MPP) and to determine the relationship between hypokalemia and MPP.
This study was retrospectively conducted from 1 August 2016 to 31 July 2018 at Bishan People's Hospital in Chongqing, China. We analyzed the demographic characteristics (age, gender), extra-pulmonary manifestations, fever duration, length of hospital stay, whole blood cell (WBC) count, C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels.
The total number of children with pneumonia was 3,385, including 570 (16.84%) patients in the MP infection group. The male-to-female ratio was 1.341. The peak time of MPP incidence was in autumn. The MP infection group had a significantly higher ratio of fever, higher body temperature, and longer fever duration. The number of MP-infected patients with hypokalemia was highest in spring. The length of hospital stay in the mild hypokalemia group was longer than in the normokalemia group. Furthermore, severe hypokalemia cases were all in the severe MP infection group, and the severity of MP infection and hypokalemia were positively correlated.
In this study, we concluded that children infected with MP were more susceptible to fever, and had a longer duration of fever. The number of MP-infected patients with mild hypokalemia peaked in spring, and affected more boys than girls. Furthermore, patients with severe hypokalemia had longer fever duration, and a correlation was found between the severity of MP infection and hypokalemia.

This study aimed to explore the effects of complex febrile seizures on hippocampal function and the significance of antiepileptic therapy.
A total of 150 children with complex febrile seizures admitted to our hospital from July 2017 to July 2020 were included in the study. The VPA group was given sodium valproate treatment; the LEV group was given levetiracetam treatment; and the observation group was given basic treatment. The efficacy of the patients was evaluated after medication. A complex febrile seizure young mouse model was constructed, and the hippocampal cell morphology and BCL-2 expression of the mice pups were analyzed. A Morris water maze was used to detect the changes in cognitive function of the young mice with complex febrile seizures.
After treatment, the recurrence-free rate of the VPA group was significantly higher than that of the observation group (P=0.0045). After 1 month and 6 months, the improvement rate of EEG in VPA group was significantly higher than that in observation group (o the targeted regulation of BCL-2 on the apoptosis of the hippocampus in the nervous system.
Antiepileptic drugs are effective in preventing the recurrence of complicated febrile seizures (CFS), and the main mechanism may be related to the targeted regulation of BCL-2 on the apoptosis of the hippocampus in the nervous system.
Conservative therapy is used for children with odontoid fracture; however, when the odontoid fracture is complicated by significant displacement and unstable, surgery is required. Anterior cervical hollow lag screw fixation has been successfully used in adult patients, but until now, there has not been any relevant image measurement research in children with os odontoideum. The aim of the present study was to identify the morphometric changes of normal os odontoideum in children of different ages and to discuss parameters for screw fixation.
Computed tomography (CT) scanning data of normal os odontoideum in 120 children of different ages were measured. The parameters were as follows transverse and vertical diameters of cancellous bone and cortical bone in os odontoideum basilar part, angle and distance from simulation screw insertion point (anterior mid-point of C2 vertebral body) to os odontoideum anterior angle as well as posterior angle, the optimal insertion angle, and the optimal screw length.
The important to select the appropriate screw diameter, length, and direction according to parameter changes of os odontoideum based on their age.
X-linked deafness-4 (DFNX4) caused by the functional loss of the
gene is one form of nonsyndromic hearing loss with postlingual onset. This study aimed to investigate the cause of X-linked inherited sensorineural nonsyndromic hearing loss in a four-generation Chinese family and to explain the reason for extremely different hearing phenotypes between the proband and other family members.
Whole-exome sequencing (WES) and co-segregation analysis were used to identify the pathogenic variants. Furthermore, methylation differences among the androgen receptor genes were utilized to investigate whether the severe phenotype of the proband is related to X-chromosome inactivation (Xi).
We described in detail the clinical characteristics of the family and identified a novel missense mutation (c.262C>G p.Gln88Glu) in
by WES. This variant was co-segregated with the postlingual hearing loss phenotype and was absent in 300 normal controls. Also, we found that the proband, a 4-year-old female, carries two new compound heterozygous mutations (c.9259G>A p.Val3087Ile and c.8576G>A p.Arg2859His) in the
gene, but to date without any other symptoms except profound sensorineural hearing loss. Additionally, analysis of X-chromosome inactivation indicated moderate skewing in the proband, which is probably related to the heterogeneity of clinical characteristics.
This is the first study to report a missense mutation of
in a Chinese family. Our findings have enriched the mutation and phenotypic spectrum of the
gene.

In responding to the potential challenges in the transition from childhood to adulthood for individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in China, a novel conception of "ALSO" was proposed to bridge the transitional needs and early intervention. To facilitate the application of ALSO in early intervention, ALSOLIFE skills assessment system (ALSOLIFE Assessment) was developed to enable caregivers to evaluate their children's skills guided by the ALSO conception. Given that the critical shortage of qualified professionals in China, many caregivers of children with ASD must function as home therapists. Z-YVAD-FMK concentration To address the practical needs of Chinese families of children with ASD, ALSOLIFE Assessment is designed as a free, online, technology-assisted, self-operated and behavioral intervention approaches supported system. The assessment report then further served as the basis for caregivers to deliver the tailored educational intervention to their children. Although ALSOLIFE Assessment provides caregivers a home-bas. Compared to the VB-MAPP and PEP-3, the ALSOLIFE Assessment exhibited good criterion-related validity across three levels total scores, 6 skill domains, and 22 skill subdomains. The reliability tests indicated its strong internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and inter-rater reliability.
The reliability and validity of the revised ALSOLIFE Assessment (464-items) satisfied psychometric requirements. It is essential to develop validated and comprehensive evaluation tools, embedded on the needs of Chinese families of children with ASD.
