At 6-month follow-up, they reported a 22% increase in stable housing and a 25% increase in full-time/part-time employment/training program enrollment. They also demonstrated a significant decline in reported depression, anxiety, and prescribed medication use at 6-month follow-up when compared to baseline.
Clients enrolled in a tailored evidence based peer-led program decreased their psychiatric symptoms and increased their housing stability and employment. Study outcomes support the use of an integrated peer-led support for increasing engagement in care for adults experiencing substance use disorders.

There is a disparate range of therapeutic interventions for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and associated symptoms. This systematic review aimed to appraise the effectiveness of both cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) for PTSD and associated symptoms for both adults and children with mild, moderate, or severe intellectual delay. A systematic search, in line with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, of the PsychInfo, PubMed, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and MEDLINE databases were performed, and all relevant articles published between 2010 and March 2020 were included. A total of 11 articles were included, eight that focused on EMDR and three on CBT. The methodological quality of many of these articles was generally weak. Tentative findings suggest that EMDR and CBT are both acceptable and feasible treatment options among adults and children with varying levels of intellectual delay, but no firm conclusions can be drawn regarding effectiveness due to small sample sizes, lack of standardized assessment, and a paucity of methodological rigorous treatment designs. This review highlights the continued use of therapeutic approaches with clients presenting with IDs and PTSD. It adds to the extant literature by providing an expansive and broad overview of the current effectiveness of both EMDR and CBT. Further high-quality research is needed to provide more conclusive findings regarding treatment effectiveness and modifications to treatment needed with this population.Neonectria ditissima and N. faginata are canker pathogens involved in an insect-fungus disease complex of American beech (Fagus grandifolia) in North America commonly known as beech bark disease (BBD). In Europe, both N. ditissima and N. coccinea are involved in BBD on European beech (Fagus sylvatica). Field observations across the range of BBD indicate ascospores to be the dominant spore type in the environment. Several studies report a heterothallic (self-sterile) mating strategy for Neonectria fungi, but one study reported homothallism (self-fertility) for N. ditissima. As such, investigations into mating strategy are important for understanding both the disease cycle and population genetics of Neonectria. This is particularly important in the United States given that over time N. faginata dominates the BBD pathosystem despite high densities of nonbeech hosts for N. ditissima. This study utilized whole-genome sequences of BBD-associated Neonectria spp. along with other publicly available Neonectria and Corinectria genomes and in vitro mating assays to characterize mating type (MAT) locus and confirm thallism for select members of Neonectria and Corinectria. MAT gene-specific primer pairs were developed to efficiently characterize the mating types of additional single-ascospore strains of N. ditissima, N. faginata, and N. coccinea and several other related species lacking genomic data. These assays also confirmed the sexual compatibility among N. ditissima strains from different plant hosts. Maximum likelihood phylogenetic analyses of both MAT1-1-1 and MAT1-2-1 sequences recovered trees with similar topology to previously published phylogenies of Neonectria and Corinectria. The results of this study indicate that all Neonectria and Corinectria tested are heterothallic based on our limited sampling and, as such, thallism cannot help explain the inevitable dominance of N. faginata in the BBD pathosystem.
Describe patient and hospital characteristics associated with Arterial Catheter (AC) or Central Venous Catheter (CVC) use among pediatric intensive care units (ICUs).
Hierarchical mixed effects analyses were used to identify patient and hospital characteristics associated with AC or CVC placement. The ICU adjusted median odds ratios (ICU-AMOR) for the admission ICU, marginal R
, and conditional intraclass correlation coefficient were reported.
166 PICUs in the Virtual PICU Systems (VPS, LLC) Database.
682,791 patients with unscheduled admissions to the PICU.
None.
ACs were placed in (median, [interquartile range]) 8.2% [4.9%-11.3%] of admissions, and CVCs were placed in 14.9% [10.4%-19.3%] of admissions across cohort ICUs. Measured patient characteristics explained about 25% of the variability in AC and CVC placement. Higher Pediatric Index of Mortality 2 (PIM2) illness severity scores were associated with increased odds of placement (Odds Ratio (95th% Confidence Interval)) AC 1.88 (1.87-1.89) anociated with AC than with CVC placement. Further study is needed to understand unexplained variation in AC and CVC use.
Recent literature and guidelines support treatment of severe acute exacerbation of COPD (AECOPD) with prednisone 40 mg (or equivalent) for 5 days.
The purpose of this study was to determine whether systemic corticosteroids were being prescribed at the appropriate dose and duration in the treatment of severe AECOPD at a large academic medical institution.
This was a single-center, retrospective, observational study conducted to evaluate corticosteroid prescribing patterns for adults admitted for severe AECOPD from March to May 2019 at a large academic medical institution. Appropriate therapy was defined as prednisone 40 mg (or equivalent) for 5 days. The primary outcome was to determine the frequency of appropriate dose and duration. The secondary outcomes were to identify the frequency of appropriate dose or duration, compare the prevalence of adverse effects, such as new/worsening hyperglycemia or hypertension, and compare 30- and 90-day readmission rates.
Of the 190 patients included, 16 (8.4%) had an appropriate duration and 8 (4.2%) an appropriate dose. Only 4 patients (2.1%) had both appropriate corticosteroid dose and duration. New/worsening hyperglycemia occurred in 96 (50.5%), and hypertension developed in 13 (6.8%). Thirty-day readmission occurred in 46 (24.2%) and 90-day readmission in 78 (41.1%). These were more likely in those without appropriate dose and duration.
Systemic corticosteroids for the treatment of severe AECOPD are not prescribed in accordance with evidence-based recommendations at this institution. This might result in a greater incidence of adverse effects and readmissions.

FH has been proposed to play as a tumour suppressor leading to the pathogenicity of leiomyomas, renal cell carcinoma and paraganglioma. Mutations in the active site of FH lead to alteration in the protein structure. Similarly, binding of several chemical inhibitors to the active site also leads to the disruption of protein structural integrity thereby leading to protein dysfunction. Stenoparib supplier Therefore, in order to address this mechanism leading to cancer, the binding efficiency of potential human FH inhibitor citrate to zebrafish fh has been extensively analysed in this study by molecular docking and simulation experiments followed by quantification of fumarate hydratase enzyme activity to validate and confirm the findings. Molecular docking revealed stronger interaction of zebrafish fh protein with inhibitor citrate when compared to natural substrate fumarate. Study on the dynamics of docked structures further confirmed that citrate was found to possess more binding affinity than fumarate. In vitro biochemical analysis also revealed concentration dependent potential inhibitory effect of citrate on zebrafish fh, thus confirming the findings of the in-silico experiments. Studies on college men indicate that athletes hold less gender-equitable attitudes (GEA), greater rape myth acceptance (RMA), and higher perceived peer support for violence (PSV), and that these attitudes are associated with perpetration risk. However, research has yet to compare the prevalence of these attitudes across gender and athletic status among high school students. The present study addressed this gap by examining the direct and interactive effects of gender and athletic status on GEA, RMA, and PSV in a large sample of high school students living in the United States. Results showed that boys involved in athletics reported lower GEA, higher RMA, and higher PSV than girls involved in athletics and non-athletes. Findings demonstrate the importance of addressing attitudes associated with violent behavior among high school boys involved in athletics, in order to reduce risk of ARA.
Pediatric strokes are rare events that can lead to neuropsychological impairment or disability. While motor deficits are relatively easy to identify and investigate, cognitive outcomes after stroke are more complex to define. Many studies have focused on global cognitive outcomes, while only a few recent studies have focused on specific cognitive processes. The aims of the present review were to provide an overview of the effects of pediatric strokes on executive function and to investigate the relations between executive functioning and clinical factors.
Studies concerning executive functioning after pediatric stroke were identified using PsycInfo, PsycArticles and PubMed. A total of 142 studies were identified, and 22met the inclusion criteria.
The review of the 22 studies included clearly indicates that childhood and perinatal strokes can affect executive function, and in particular inhibition. In contrast, the results concerning clinical factors related to EF outcomes are inconsistent.
Our resultsical predictors of the outcomes. Studies are needed to better understand this aspect and to develop adequate EF interventions for children following stroke.COVID-19 has affected the 2020-2021 school year for everyone and thrust school nurses into the spotlight. Some school nurses are too overwhelmed to even think about data; others want to collect data differently to illustrate the value of the role of the school nurse. This article provides guidance on data collection during this unique time period. The article is based on a blog originally posted on National Association of School Nurses's website.
