We reveal that the propensity for topologically-overconstrained gels to phase-separate arises from the existence of some internal stress within their atomic network, which acts as an energy penalty that drives phase separation.
0.10) CASH gels tend to phase-separate. Furthermore, we demonstrate that this transition is correlated to a topological flexible-to-rigid transition within the atomic network. We reveal that the propensity for topologically-overconstrained gels to phase-separate arises from the existence of some internal stress within their atomic network, which acts as an energy penalty that drives phase separation.A unique three-dimension (3D) porous network structure where N-doped reduced graphene oxide aerogels (N-rGA) are decorated by raspberry-like CoFe2O4 (CFO) clusters. Super-broad effective microwave absorption bandwidth (7.28 GHz) of the CFO/N-rGA composite is obtained at 2.53 mm by changing N contents. Here, the dipolar relaxation loss and conduction loss are highly sensitive to the presence of pyridinic, pyrrolic and graphitic N in the CFO/N-rGA composites. A minimum reflection loss of the CFO/N-rGA composites reaches up to -55.43 dB at 15.36 GHz with a matching thickness (2.3 mm) and low filler loading (10 wt%). Its effective absorption bandwidth completely covers X-band from 7.76 to 12.72 GHz at 3.3 mm. The high-efficiency microwave absorption of the composites mainly results from the enhanced polarization relaxation, the specific design of conductive network and the superior impedance matching. This study offers a promising technical route to explore new N-doped magnetic/dielectric composites as ideal microwave absorbers. We demonstrate for the first time the in-situ synthesis of Pd nanocubes (PdNC) on nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide (NRGO) for facile organic transformations wherein the cubic morphology of Pd can only be realized by precision-controlled acid additions in the tune of 0.02 pH variations in the reaction medium. Due to the intimate contact arising from atom-by-atom addition of Pd on NRGO, the composite has exhibited a pronounced catalyst to support charge transfer effect, shift in the d-band center, and lowering of charge-transfer resistance when compared with PdNC-NRGO ex-situ composites prepared by mixing of the preformed components of PdNC and NRGO or PdNCs alone. The activities of these catalysts were tested for the Suzuki coupling and nitroarene reduction reactions using water as an industry-friendly solvent. In both, the in-situ deposited sample exhibited substantially higher catalytic activity as well as stability when compared with an ex-situ sample or pure PdNCs. We show that a very high turnover frequency of ~31300 h-1 and ~900 h-1 are achievable by using the in-situ deposited PdNC-NRGO composite for Suzuki coupling reactions and nitroarene reduction respectively, better than the state-of-the-art catalysts developed recently, in addition to high recyclability.Interaction of multi-active components can effectively maximize the overall catalytic ability of alcohol fuel cells. Herein, the self-assembled nitrogen doped carbon nanotubes (NCNTs) containing Co-MnO composite (Co-MnO/NCNTs) are successfully synthesized using dihydrodiamine as carbon and nitrogen source through one-step synthesis. In order to further improve the catalytic activity of Co-MnO/NCNTs for alcohol oxidation, small amounts of platinum quantum dots are uniformly loaded on Co-MnO/NCNTs formation of quaternary hybrid (named Pt/Co-MnO/NCNTs) during microwave reduction stage. selleckchem Notably, the prepared Pt/Co-MnO/NCNTs hybrids possess the excellent methanol and ethanol oxidation mass current density of 1775.4 and 1112.8 mA mg-1 in alkaline condition, which are 3.6 and 2.25 times higher than that of Pt/C catalysts, respectively. The current density of ethanol catalytic oxidation is lower than that of methanol, which may be due to the partial oxidation of acetyl (the intermediate product of ethanol) on the Pt (1 1 1) crystal surface. More importantly, CO oxidation experiments reveal that strong electronic synergistic effect between MnO and Pt quantum dot can greatly improve the CO anti-poisoning ability. Another significant advantage of Pt/Co-MnO/NCNTs is that low platinum loading leads to low cost effective, which demonstrates that the modification non-noble metal catalysts with a few noble metals quantum dots is a promising choice to mass produce high performance catalyst with remarkably boosting electrocatalytic activity for alcohol oxidation. The need to stem the current outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 responsible for COVID-19 is driving the search for inhibitors that will block coronavirus replication and pathogenesis. The coronavirus 3C-like protease (3CLpro) encoded in the replicase polyprotein is an attractive target for antiviral drug development because protease activity is required for generating a functional replication complex. Reagents that can be used to screen for protease inhibitors and for identifying the replicase products of SARS-CoV-2 are urgently needed. Here we describe a luminescence-based biosensor assay for evaluating small molecule inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2 3CLpro/main protease. We also document that a polyclonal rabbit antiserum developed against SARS-CoV 3CLpro cross reacts with the highly conserved 3CLpro of SARS-CoV-2. These reagents will facilitate the pre-clinical evaluation of SARS-CoV-2 protease inhibitors.Ticks of small mammals pose a significant risk to public health but these hazards are poorly understood in the tropics due to the paucity of information on the disease ecology of ticks in these regions. Mapping and quantifying the diversity of small mammal/tick networks and the effects of habitat on these medically important systems is key to disease prevention. Singapore represents a microcosm of much of tropical Asia as it has a diverse, though poorly studied, community of ticks and small mammals. Singapore also has a range of terrestrial habitats exhibiting a gradient of degradation. Small mammals and their ticks were sampled across the island in four main habitat types (old secondary forest, young secondary forest, scrubland, urban) across 4.5 years. Four tick species were collected (Amblyomma helvolum, Dermacentor auratus, Haemaphysalis semermis, Ixodes granulatus) from 10 small mammal species. Habitat was found to have a significant effect on both the abundance and structure of tick communities on small mammals.
