32, p < .001, 95% CI = 1.87-2.89). Other significant factors associated with weapon carrying include male gender, victim of bullying, teen dating violence, sexual violence, suicidal ideation, and history of substance use. Adolescents who self-identified as Black/African American or Hispanic were significantly less likely to carry a weapon when compared to adolescents who self-identified as non-Hispanic White.
The findings of this study underscore the importance of developing age appropriate intervention strategies to curb early initiation of alcohol use and weapon carrying among adolescents.

This ecological cross-sectional study utilized secondary data from four open access databases The Geography of Social Capital (U.S. Congress, 2018), County Health Rankings (2018), CDC's Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS, 2018) and the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF, 2015). Our dependent variables were adult obesity, adult diabetes, and life expectancy. We identified the highest and lowest states' prevalence for each of three health outcomes in each of the four U.S. regions-Northeast, South, Midwest, and West. Each dependent variable was assessed using a sample of 32 counties (N = 32). Data analysis consisted of bivariate and regression analysis. Our results showed that the most consistent measure of "vulnerability" linked significantly to all three health conditions studied was percent births to unmarried women (Obesity p less then .001; Diabetes p = .049; Life Expectancy p = .019). The most consistent measure of "social capital" linked to all three health conditions was recreation establishments per 1,000 inhabitants (Obesity p = .006; Diabetes p = .005; Life Expectancy p = .018). We concluded that measures of vulnerability were strongly associated with obesity, diabetes, and life expectancy when compared with social capital indicators. However, measures of social capital consistently accounted for the second-greatest proportion of the variance. Social and community contexts should be constantly addressed by both public health governmental- and scholarly-research agendas in the United States.Tick-borne pathogens (TBPs) have complex life cycles involving tick vectors and vertebrate hosts. However, there is limited empirical evidence on the zoonotic circulation of TBPs. In this study, we used a One Health approach to study the possible circulation of TBPs in ticks, animals and humans within a rural household in the foothills of the Fruška Gora mountain, northern Serbia. The presence of TBP DNA was assessed using microfluidic PCR (25 bacterial species, 7 parasite species, 5 bacterial genera, 3 parasite genera) in animal, human and tick samples and the presence of tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) RNA was screened for using RT-qPCR on tick samples. Epigenetic inhibitor In addition, Lyme borreliosis serology was assessed in patients sera. Rhipicephalus sanguineus and Ixodes ricinus ticks were identified on dogs and Haemaphysalis punctata was identified on house walls. Rickettsia helvetica was the most common pathogen detected in pooled R. sanguineus and I. ricinus tick samples, followed by Hepatozoon canis. None of the H. punctata tick samples tested positive for the presence of TBPs. Anaplasma phagocytophilum and Rickettsia monacensis were the most frequent pathogens detected in dogs, followed by Rickettsia felis, whereas Anaplasma bovis was the only pathogen found in one of the goats tested. None of the human blood samples collected from family members tested positive for the presence of TBPs. Although microfluidic PCR did not detect Borrelia sp. in any of the tested tick or blood samples, a family member with a history of Lyme disease was seropositive for Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato (s.l.). We conclude that, despite the presence of TBPs in tick and vertebrate reservoirs, there is no evidence of infection with TBPs across various components of the epidemiological chain in a rural Fruška Gora household.Cisplatin based hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) has been shown to prolong recurrence free and overall survival of women with ovarian cancer who have responded to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of cytoreductive surgery with or without the addition of HIPEC on renal function.
This is a retrospective case-controlled study at a tertiary teaching hospital in Dublin, Ireland. All patients who had interval cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and HIPEC from October 2017 to October 2020 were included. A cohort of patients who had interval CRS without HIPEC were included as a control. Sodium thiosulphate (ST) was added to the HIPEC protocol in 2019. In order to assess the impact of ST as a renal protectant, renal function and post-operative outcomes were compared between the groups.
Sixty patients who had interval CRS were included, thirty of whom received cisplatin-based HIPEC. Seven received cisplatin 50mg/m
without the addition of ST. Twenty three patients reced with careful preoperative optimisation, intra operative fluid management and attention to renal function. The addition of sodium thiosulphate is a safe and effective method to minimise toxicity and should be added to any cisplatin HIPEC protocol.Patients with BRCA mutations are at high risk of high grade serous ovarian cancer. A paradigm shift has resulted in the current understanding that many cases of ovarian cancer actually arise from the fimbriated fallopian tube. The case presented here involves fallopian tube carcinoma arising from the cornua of the uterus in a BRCA2 carrier. This case suggests that pathologic analysis of risk-reducing bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (RRBSO) specimens via serial sectioning and extensively examining the fimbriated end (SEE-FIM) may be insufficient to diagnose all occult lesions of interest. This case also provides a new consideration in the ongoing debate over the role of concurrent hysterectomy at time of RRBSO in BRCA carriers.
