Together, these results indicate that CD44v6v9 double positive cells are CSCs in EBVaGC that are maintained through the LMP2A/NF-kB pathway. Future studies should investigate CD44v6/v9+/+ cells in normal and neoplastic gastric epithelium to prevent and treat this specific subtype of gastric cancer infected with EBV. Acquired oral lymphangioma has been reported secondary to radiation therapy and denture-induced trauma due to damage to previously normal lymphatics. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of acquired oral lymphangioma due to childhood tuberculous adenitis. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. The physicochemical characterization of the samples showed that these habitats were thalassohaline. The carotenoid production from isolated strains varied from 0.1 to 3.68 µg/ml. Based on their physiological characteristics and pigment production, 43 strains were selected and identified by means of phenotypic tests and 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the isolates corresponded to the class Halobacteria and were closely related to genera Halorubrum, Haloarcula, Haloferax, Natrinema, Halogeometricum, Haloterrigena, and Halopiger. Carotenoids of the highest producer, strain Halorubrum sp. BS2 were identified using high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detector and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Bacterioruberin and bisanhydrobacterioruberin were the predominant carotenoids. The scavenging activity of these carotenoids reached 99% at a concentration of 18 μg/ml, which was much higher than that of ascorbic acid used as a reference compound. These carotenoids also exhibited significant antibacterial activities against four human-pathogenic strains and four fish-pathogenic strains. Variations in salinity, agitation rate, temperature, and light intensity were found to influence growth and carotenoid production of Halorubrum sp. BS2. Our results suggest that halophilic archaea represent a potential source for carotenoids, which are characterized by high antioxidant and antibacterial activities. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to determine the association between body mass index (BMI) in young men at enlistment for military service and later risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). METHODS Nationwide register-based prospective cohort study of men enlisting 1969 to 2005, followed through the Swedish National Patient and Cause of Death registries. We identified 1 639 838 men (mean age, 18.3 years) free of prior venous thromboembolism, of whom 29 342 were obese (BMI 30 to less then 35 kg m-2 ) and 7236 severely obese (BMI ≥ 35 kg m-2 ). The participants were followed until a first registered diagnosis of VTE. RESULTS During a median follow-up of 28 years (interquartile interval, 20 to 36 years), 11 395 cases of deep vein thrombosis and 7270 cases of pulmonary embolism were recorded. Compared with men with a BMI of 18.5 to less then 20 kg m-2 , men with higher BMI in young adulthood showed an incrementally increasing risk of VTE that was moderately but significantly increased already at normal BMI levels. Adolescent obese men with a BMI of 30 to 35 kg m-2 had an adjusted hazard ratio of 2.93 (95% confidence interval, 2.65 to 3.24) for VTE. Severely obese men with a BMI of ≥35 kg m-2 had a hazard ratio of 4.95 (95% confidence interval, 4.16 to 5.90). CONCLUSIONS Men who were obese or severely obese in young adulthood had a marked increase in risk of VTE. © 2020 The Authors. CHQ Autophagy inhibitor Herein, GDY-based photoelectrochemical-type photodetection is realized by spin-coating ultrathin GDY nanosheets onto flexible poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) substrates. The GDY-based photodetectors (PDs) demonstrate excellent photo-responsive behaviors with high photocurrent (Pph , 5.98 µA cm- 2 ), photoresponsivity (Rph , 1086.96 µA W- 1 ), detectivity (7.31 × 1010 Jones), and excellent long-term stability (more than 1 month). More importantly, the PDs maintain an excellent Pph after 1000 cycles of bending (4.45 µA cm- 2 ) and twisting (3.85 µA cm- 2 ), thanks to the great flexibility of the GDY structure that is compatible with the flexible PET substrate. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations are adopted to explore the electronic characteristics of GDY, which provides evidence for the performance enhancement of GDY in alkaline electrolyte. In this way, the GDY-based flexible PDs can enrich the fundamental study of GDY and pave the way for the exploration of GDY heterojunction-based photodetection. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. A variety of luminescent organic compounds have been exploited along this line, but dendrimers have been inapplicable due to their fragility and extremely poor crystallinity. Here we show a novel dendrimer family that overcomes these difficulties. First-, second-, and third-generation carbazole (Cz) dendrimers with a carbon-bridged oligo(phenylenevinylene) (COPV2) core ( G n COPV2 , n = 1-3) assemble to form microcrystals. The COPV2 cores align uni/bidirectionally in the crystals while the Cz units in G2 - and G3COPV2 align omnidirectionally. The dendrons work as light-harvesting antennas that absorb non-polarized light and transfer it to the COPV2 core, from which a polarized luminescence radiates. Furthermore, these crystals act as laser resonators, where the lasing thresholds are strongly coupled with the crystal morphology and the orientation of COPV2, which is in contrast with the conventional amorphous dendrimers. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
