In this article, we summarize the key findings of an exploratory study in which students and faculty completed a survey that sought to identify the most important ethical issues in STEM fields, how often these issues are discussed in research groups, and how often these ethical issues come up in the daily practice of research. Participants answered a series of open-ended and Likert-scale questions to provide a detailed look at the current ethical landscape at a private research university in the Midwest. The survey also looked at potential differences between faculty and undergraduate and graduate students' perceptions in answering these questions. The results indicate that while all community members tended to view issues that can be classified as research misconduct as the most important activities to avoid in STEM-related research, the level of discussion and actual witnessing of these practices was relatively low. The study points to a consensus among students and faculty about the important ethical issues in STEM and the need for more discussion and attention to be paid to communication, collaboration, and interpersonal relationships in the research environment.
Most deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) youth grow up in hearing familial and educational environments, posing unique risks for their socio-emotional well-being. The study's objective was to explore protective processes contributing to resilience among DHH individuals in different life periods.
We conducted semi-structured interviews with 23 DHH young adults on their life-long coping with having a hearing loss (HL).
Thematic analysis identified, according to participants' retrospective perceptions, processes that supported their positive adjustment from childhood up to early adulthood.
Themes were organised at three ecological levels individual, including five subthemes (e.g. certain attitudes to HL); family, including various types of parental support; and community, including four subthemes (e.g. extra-curricular activities). Family and community level resources enabled and nurtured personal attitudes and coping abilities. The perceptions of which personal attitudes and contextual resources were helpful changed from childhood to young adulthood.
Findings show how resilience is heterogeneously promoted in the unique context of DHH individuals living in hearing environments. They also show interactions between the individual, family and wider society and the dynamics of coping resources across time. Findings indicate the important of considering DHH individuals' coping choices in their specific life context.

To describe the relationship between the number of Federal Drug Administration (FDA)-approved manufacturers and the price change of generic and branded topical eye drops.
Retrospective analysis of topical eye drop medications with formulations listed in the FDA Orange Book and the National Average Drug Acquisition Cost database from 2013 to 2017.
The most frequently prescribed generic topical drugs were glaucoma medications (34%), antimicrobials (32%), anti-inflammatories (24%), mydriatics (5%), and anesthetics (5%). The most frequently prescribed branded topical drugs were anti-inflammatories (45%), glaucoma medications (32%), antimicrobials (21%) and dry eye medications (3%). From 2013 to 2017, generic eye drops had a median price decrease of 20% (IQR 32%) while branded eye drops had a median price increase of 44% (IQR 28%) (
<.001). A significant inverse association was identified between the price change of generic eye drops and the total number of all manufacturers (r=-.41,
=.010), generic drug manufacturers (r=-.32,
=.0496), and alternative branded drug manufacturers (r=-.57,

Several studies have shown that SCWT performance is influenced by different demographic factors and have recommended the necessity of generating normative data in different cultures. The present study aims to explore the effect of gender, age, and education on SCWT scores and to generate normative data for the Lebanese healthy adults. A sample of 321 healthy participants aged 18 and above was recruited from different Lebanese regions. The SCWT was administered to the participants. A regression-based strategy was applied to generate normative data. The results showed a statistically significant effect of age and education on the SCWT scores whereas no significant effect for gender was found. An interactive calculator was created to calculate estimated Z-scores based on corresponding predictions of the linear regression model. The calculator also provides percentile ranks. The present study is the first to generate normative data for the SCWT test in Lebanon.
