Cerebral aneurysms in the pediatric population are rare and optimal treatment strategies are not as well characterized as in adults. The Pipeline embolization device (PED) is an endoluminal flow diverter that is commonly used to treat aneurysms in adults, but experience with this device in children is limited. The authors sought to further characterize PED use and outcomes in this specific population by performing both a systematic review of patient-level data from studies reporting the use of the PED to treat pediatric aneurysms and a retrospective review of their experience.
A systematic review of the PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases was performed to identify studies reporting the use of the PED in pediatric patients (age ≤ 18 years). Disaggregated data regarding demographics, aneurysm characteristics, treatment, and outcomes were collected. Retrospective data from the authors' two institutions were also included.
Thirty studies comprising patient-level data on 43 pediatric patients with 47 aneurye PED, the use of the PED in the pediatric population appears to be safe. While the short-term effectiveness is also similar to that of adults, additional studies are needed to further characterize the long-term outcomes and better define the use of this device in pediatric patients.

In Chiari malformation type I (CM-I), a variety of imaging findings have been purported to be important; however, results have been inconclusive, inconsistent, or not replicated in independent studies. The purpose of this study was to report imaging characteristics for a large cohort of patients with CM-I and identify the imaging findings associated with surgical decompression.
Patients were identified using ICD-9 codes for CM-I for the period from 1996 to 2017. After review of the medical records, patients were excluded if they 1) did not have a diagnosis of CM-I, 2) were not evaluated by a neurosurgeon, or 3) did not have available preoperative MRI. Retrospective chart review was performed to collect demographic and clinical data. Imaging parameters were measured according to the Chiari I Malformation Common Data Elements.
A total of 731 patients were included for analysis, having a mean follow-up duration of 25.5 months. The mean age at presentation was 8.5 years. Previous factor analytic and clustering studies suggest the presence of three or four subtypes of OCD symptoms. However, these studies have relied on predefined symptom checklists, which are limited in breadth and may be biased toward researchers' previous conceptualizations of OCD.
In this study, we examine a large data set of freely reported obsession symptoms obtained from an OCD mobile app as an alternative to uncovering potential OCD subtypes. From this, we examine data-driven clusters of obsessions based on their latent semantic relationships in the English language using word embeddings.

The clustering of naturally acquired obsessional words resulted in three major groupings of semantic themes, which partially overlapped with predefined checklists from previous studies. Furthermore, the closeness of the overall embedded relationships across clusters and their central convergence on harm suggests that, at least at the level of self-reported obsessional thoughts, most obsessions have close semantic relationships. Harm to self or others may be an underlying organizing theme across many obsessions. Notably, relationship-themed words, not previously included in factor-analytic studies, clustered with just-right words. These novel insights have potential implications for understanding how an apparent multitude of obsessional symptoms are connected by underlying themes. The most important remediation strategy is to reduce the translocation of these heavy metals from polluted soil to rice. Bioremediation using microorganisms had been widely used for preventing environmental heavy metal pollution, and the interaction between microorganisms and plants is critical to reduce the heavy metal stress. In this study, we demonstrated that an extremophile Deinococcus radiodurans, especially its mutant strain-Δdr2577 which is deficient in cell surface-layer, could efficiently prevent the translocation and damages of Cd or Pb in rice. The bacterial cells efficiently removed Cd or Pb from culture medium. Following colonization of Δdr2577 cells in rice root, Cd level decreased to 71.6% in root and 60.9% in shoot, comparing to the plants treated with Cd alone; Pb level decreased to 73.3% in root and 56.9% in shoot, comparing to the plants treated with Pb alone. Meanwhile, the bacterial cells released their intracellular antioxidant-related molecules including glutamate and manganese ions into culture medium. Accumulation of glutamate and manganese ions detected in rice root and shoot ameliorate Cd/Pb-induced oxidative stress as indicated by reduced levels of ROS and enhanced activities of antioxidant enzymes in rice. Our results provide a potential application of an extremophile bacterium in alleviating heavy metal toxicity in rice. The main findings of the work reveal the interaction between the D. radiodurans and rice, as well as the alleviating mechanism of Cd and Pb toxicity through suppressing heavy metal accumulation and improving the antioxidant system in rice by the extremophile bacterium.
