These results highlight the interest of coriander by-products as raw materials for producing fiberboards with low impact on indoor air quality. The quality of soils polluted by trace elements around the facilities with the Cu and Zn smelting activities and the post-flotation tailings pond from copper industry were assessed. The level of the contamination of soils was determined on the basis of the contamination factor and the geoaccumulation index. The geoaccumulation index allows to distinguish more degrees of soil contamination and simplifies the assessment of the useable value of soil. The degrees of soil contamination and the pollution load index were shown. It has been shown that the pollution indices are a useful tool in describing the soil quality and planning corrective actions in the areas contaminated as a result of industrial activity. Histograms of pollution indices were used in order to detect the distribution of trace elements in soils. The content of metals in biomass was assessed using bioaccumulation indices. Triticum L. and Brassica napus L. show low bioaccumulation of studied metals in cereal plants. The correlations were used in order to detect the relationship among trace elements in soil as well as the relationship of metal (soil)-metal (plant) and metal bioaccumulation (plant)-metal (soil). The highest values of indices were recorded for the Oława smelter, presumably due to the long operation period before technological changes limiting the emission of pollutants were introduced. This research area was classified as very highly contaminated with all trace elements. Soils around other facilities are at least moderately contaminated. This study investigates the relationship between environmental degradation and population health using a global panel data of 180 countries from 1990 to 2016. The empirical analysis is conducted using fixed-effects approach based on Hausman test. Moreover, two-stage least squares (2SLS) and system-generalized method of moments (SGMM) are used to deal with the endogenous nature of environmental degradation. The indicators of life expectancy and infant mortality are used to measure population health, whereas environmental degradation is measured by CO2 emissions. The empirical findings show that environmental degradation negatively influences population health outcomes. It implies that countries having a high level of environmental degradation experience low life expectancy and high infant mortality rates. Findings of the study suggest that health-related reforms need to be aligned with policies which ensure lower environmental degradation. To investigate the differences in cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) uptake and translocation among rape cultivars and genotypes and select suitable rape cultivars for both safe production and soil remediation, a field experiment was carried out with 39 rape cultivars of three genotypes on a farmland polluted with Cd and Pb in eastern Hunan Province, China. The Cd and Pb contents in rape tissues were measured, and the amount of Cd and Pb removed was calculated. The results showed that Cd in rape plants accumulated mostly in stems, while Pb accumulated mostly in roots. The Cd accumulation in various rape tissues followed the sequence stem > root > husk > rapeseed, while the Pb accumulation followed the sequence root > stem > husk > rapeseed. The total Cd and Pb removed by planting rape were 4.50-23.6 g ha-1 and 5.85-13.7 g ha-1, respectively, and the Cd and Pb contents in rapeseeds were in the range 0.11-0.47 mg kg-1 and 0.03-0.84 mg kg-1, respectively. Only the Pb content in rapeseed of "Youyan 9" exceeded the limit of the maximum levels of contaminants in foods (GB2762-2017, Pb ≤ 0.2 mg kg-1). In this experiment, the roots of most rape cultivars showed a greater capacity for Cd transport, while the stems showed a greater capacity for Pb transport. Except for the TFstem-husk for Cd, there were no significant differences in the TFs and BAFs of 39 rape cultivars, and clear variations in Cd content were found in the stems of the three genotypes, while there was no significant difference in the Cd and Pb contents in the other tissues. In the farmland polluted with Cd and Pb, planting "Xiangzayou 695" and "Youyan 2013" not only reduced soil pollution but also allowed the production of safe rapeseed.INTRODUCTION In an Expert Consensus guided by systematic review, the panel agreed that for open elective incisional hernia repair, sublay mesh location is preferred, but open intraperitoneal onlay mesh (IPOM) may be useful in certain settings. This analysis of data from the Herniamed Registry aimed to compare the outcomes of open IPOM and sublay technique. METHODS Propensity score matching of 9091 patients with elective incisional hernia repair and with defect width ≥ 4 cm was performed. The following matching variables were selected age, gender, risk factors, ASA score, preoperative pain, defect size, and defect localization. RESULTS For the 1977 patients with open IPOM repair and 7114 patients with sublay repair, n = 1938 (98%) pairs were formed. No differences were seen between the two groups with regard to the intraoperative, postoperative and general complications, complication-related reoperations and recurrences. But significant disadvantages were identified for the open IPOM repair in respect of pain on exertion (17.1% vs. 13.7%; p = 0.007), pain at rest (10.4% vs. 8.3%; p = 0.040) and chronic pain requiring treatment (8.8% vs. 5.8%; p  less then  0.001), in addition to rates of 3.8%, 1.1% and 1.1%, respectively, occurring in both matched patients. No relationship with tacker mesh fixation was identified. There are only very few reports in the literature with comparable findings. CONCLUSION Compared with sublay repair, open IPOM repair appears to pose a higher risk of chronic pain. This finding concords with the Expert Consensus recommending that incisional hernia should preferably be repaired using the sublay technique.BACKGROUND Long-term clinical outcome after a recurrent inguinal hernia repair may be associated with the type of repair, that is, laparoscopic or open. The results from previous randomised controlled trials are inconclusive regarding the long-term risk of re-recurrence chronic pain. Accordingly, this trial compared laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal repair (TAPP) with Lichtenstein's repair. The primary outcome was repair for a re-recurrence. The secondary outcome was chronic pain. PD-1/PD-L1 Inhibitor 3 METHODS Multi-centre single-blinded, randomised trial on TAPP vs Lichtenstein's repair in male patients operated for a recurrent inguinal hernia after a primary open inguinal hernia repair. Follow-up for repair for a re-recurrence was registered in the Danish Hernia Database. Prospective follow-up data were achieved by a structured questionnaire on pain-related functional impairment using the Activities Assessment Scale (AAS-pain). RESULT A total of 360 patients were randomised, 297 were mailed the follow-up questionnaire (63 excluded) after median 12 years (range 9-15).
