Buffy coat (BC) platelets (PLTs) have been used globally for many years. In 2004 Canadian Blood Services (CBS) made the decision to transition from PLT-rich plasma (PRP) to BC PLTs. We reviewed the benefits and manufacture process of BC and the implementation challenges involved.
A literature review was performed in the following areas BC efficacy, donor population shifts, production and good stewardship of PLTs, logistic considerations with overnight holds, advantages of the overnight hold, the CBS experience, licensure and standards, and changes needed to produce BC PLTs in the United States. The aim was to analyze current practice and identify possible actions for blood centers and hospitals.
Implementation of BC would offer an additional source of PLTs to address the growing elderly population and the declining apheresis donor base. Substantial logistic, operational, and financial benefits were seen when CBS transitioned to BC with overnight hold.
Buffy coat blood products are widely used throughout the world. Recent conversion from PRP to BC by CBS showed that conversion can be accomplished with planning, communication, and partnership from all stakeholders. In conclusion, BC PLTs are worth serious consideration in the United States, but regulatory barriers in the United States will need to be addressed.

To investigate the effect of progressive muscle relaxation exercises on compassion satisfaction, burnout, and compassion fatigue of nurse managers.
A pretest, posttest, one-group quasi-experimental study was carried out with 30 nurse managers and they were received "Jacobson Progressive Muscle Relaxation Exercises" in a group once in a week for 8 weeks.
After the second month, the mean compassion fatigue (p < 0.01) and the mean burnout scores (p = 0.01) were decreased.
It is recommended to expand progressive muscle relaxation exercises and to conduct studies in different groups to increase the professional quality of life.

To explore nurses' constructions of the concept of evidence-based practice through their understandings of and experiences with evidence-based practice in a clinical care setting.
The primary purpose of evidence-based practice is high-quality patient outcomes. However, the adoption of evidence-based practice is described as a complex process, and research shows that evidence-based practice is not translated into practice. Research often explores facilitators and barriers of implementing and adopting evidence-based practice. Yet there is limited knowledge on how nurses construct the concept in practice.
This study has a constructivist approach and follows COREQ guidelines.
Ten semi-structured interviews with 26 nurses were conducted in 2019. Data were analysed with an emic and inductive approach.
Three key constructions emerged. Understandings of evidence-based practice were based on the original concept of evidence-based medicine. This included the hierarchy of evidence which was perceived as an infnursing field remain academic, as nurses in practice construct the concept on standards from evidence-based medicine.

However, sex differences in blood fatty acid responses to eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), 205n-3 or DHA supplementation have not been fully investigated. In this exploratory analysis, females and males (n = 14-15 per group) were supplemented with 3 g/day EPA, 3 g/day DHA, or olive oil control for 12 weeks. Plasma was analyzed for sex effects at baseline and changes following 12 weeks' supplementation for fatty acid levels and carbon-13 signature (δ13 C). Following EPA supplementation, the increase in plasma DHA in females (+23.8 ± 11.8, nmol/mL ± SEM) was higher than males (-13.8 ± 9.2, p  less then  0.01). The increase in plasma δ13 C-DHA of females (+2.79 ± 0.31, milliUrey (mUr ± SEM) compared with males (+1.88 ± 0.44) did not reach statistical significance (p = 0.10). The sex effect appears driven largely by increased plasma DHA in the AA genotype of females (+58.8 ± 11.5, nmol/mL ± SEM, n = 5) compared to GA + GG in females (+4.34 ± 13.5, n = 9) and AA in males (-29.1 ± 17.2, n = 6) for rs953413 in the ELOVL2 gene (p  less then  0.001). In conclusion, EPA supplementation increases plasma DHA levels in females compared to males, which may be dependent on the AA genotype for rs953413 in ELOVL2.We propose that synesthetic cross-activation between the primary auditory cortex and the anatomically adjacent insula may help explain two puzzling conditions-autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) and misophonia-in which quotidian sounds involuntarily trigger strong emotional responses. In ASMR the sounds engender relaxation, while in misophonia they trigger an aversive response. The insula both plays an important role in autonomic nervous system control and integrates multiple interoceptive maps representing the physiological state of the body to substantiate a dynamic representation of emotional wellbeing. Cytoskeletal Signaling inhibitor We propose that in ASMR cross-activation of the map for affective (sensual) touch leads to an increase in subjective wellbeing and parasympathetic activity. Conversely, in misophonia the effect of the cross-activation is to decrease emotional wellbeing and increase sympathetic activity. Our hypothesis also illuminates the connection between hearing and wellbeing more broadly and helps explain why so many people experience decreased wellbeing from modern urban soundscapes.
