These results suggest that sensory representation during experience of emotional stimuli, compared with neutral stimuli, is more directly influenced by internally generated higher-order information from the prefrontal cortex. The diffusion of saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons is of fundamental importance for many zeolite-catalyzed processes. Transport of small alkenes in the confined zeolite pores can become hindered, resulting in a significant impact on the ultimate product selectivity and separation. Herein, intracrystalline light olefin/paraffin diffusion through the 8-ring windows of zeolite SAPO-34 is characterized by a complementary set of first-principle molecular dynamics simulations, PFG-NMR experiments, and pulse-response temporal analysis of products measurements, yielding information at different length and time scales. Our results clearly show a promotional effect of the presence of Brønsted acid sites on the diffusion rate of ethene and propene, whereas transport of alkanes is found to be insensitive to the presence of acid sites. The enhanced diffusivity of unsaturated hydrocarbons is ascribed to the formation of favorable π-H interactions with acid protons, as confirmed by IR spectroscopy measurements. The acid site distribution is proven to be an important design parameter for optimizing product distributions and separations. Many gallate esters have been applied as food additives due to their good biological properties. Herein, nine novel gallate ester derivatives were synthesized by a Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction and characterized by melting point (m.p.), infrared (IR) spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (1 H- and 13 C-NMR) spectra, and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS). Their antioxidant and antibacterial activities were measured using a series of classical assays. learn more Studies found that the products showed favorable antioxidant and antibacterial activities. Their 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl free radical (DPPH⋅ ) scavenging effect IC50 values were less than 5.00 μg mL-1 and their reducing power was not less than that of vitamin C (Vc). Furthermore, the antibacterial results showed that the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of the products were not greater than 8.00 μg mL-1 , and their antibacterial rates were over 95 % at 300 μg mL-1 . The above data add valuable and novel information that gallate ester derivatives can be considered potential food additives to address food safety issues because of their high biological activity and health benefits.Sulfonyl compounds have attracted considerable interest due to their extensive applications in drug discovery, agricultural, and material science. The access to the assembly of SO2 -containing compounds via the same oxidative-state introduction of hypervalent sulfur has come to the fore in the recent years. Especially, the transition-metal-involved synthesis of hypervalent sulfur compounds is the most effective strategy since SO2 is easy to insert into the metal-carbon bonds. This review discusses the application of the same oxidation-state introduction of hypervalent sulfur strategy under the transition-metal-catalyzed conditions, and presents according to different metal catalysts and the synthesized diversity hypervalent sulfur-containing compounds skeletons, including sulfonamides, sulfones, sulfinamides, sulfonyl acids and sulfonyl fluorides. The [FeII (C6 F5 Tp)2 ] spin-crossover complex is an atypical molecular switch, which can be converted upon annealing between two archetypal spin-crossover behaviours from an extremely gradual spin-crossover to a broad hysteretic spin-transition (of ca. 65 K). The hysteresis shows an uncommon "rounded shape" that is reproducible upon cycling temperature. In depth structural studies reveal a first crystal phase transition, which occurs upon melting and recrystallizing at high temperature. This first irreversible transition is associated with a radical change in the crystal packing. More importantly, the "rounded and broad" hysteretic transition is shown to occur in a non-cooperative SCO system and is associated with the occurrence of a symmetry-breaking phase transition that appears when roughly ca. 50 % of the SCO complexes are switched.Ancel Keys, whose life spanned over 100 years (1904-2004), made a wealth of seminal scientific and public health contributions. As a physiologist, nutritionist, and public health scientist, he has left his mark on the 20th century by exploring different areas of physiology and nutrition, as well as by contributing to the understanding of basic public health issues. Among his major achievements one can mention in chronological order studying adaptation to very high altitude, developing the K ration to enable the US military to survive with light but dense food, dissecting the physiology of starvation and nutritional rehabilitation to optimize recovery of functions, uncovering the link between serum cholesterol and heart disease, coordinating the first multi-country epidemiological longitudinal study in nutrition and health, coining the word "body mass index" (BMI), which he showed to be the best body weight index to predict body fat, and promoting the Mediterranean diet for a healthy life style. This review examines the historical events and scientific intrigues that have surrounded Ancel Keys's major classical studies that have ensured him a central place in the history of medical science.Since insects belonging to the Acrididae family have different nutritional preferences, and their physical characteristics differ, they pose a problem in classification for taxonomists. In order to remove this confusion, the biology of the species belonging to this family should be well known. Therefore, the morphology and histology of the female reproductive system of Pseudochorthippus parallelus parallelus (Zetterstedt, 1821) (Orthoptera, Acrididae) and histochemical content of the yolk granules accumulating in oocyte cytoplasm have been studied by using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy in this paper. The reproductive system of females of this species has five or six ovarioles in each ovary. The histological data revealed that the ovary of P. parallelus parallelus is of panoistic type, with each ovariole divided into a terminal filament, a germarium, a vitellarium, and a pedicel. The histochemical features of the yolk granules which accumulate in the oocyte cytoplasm have been also identified.
