Partially defective fingerprint image (PDFI) with poor performance poses challenges to the automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS). To improve the quality and the performance rate of PDFI, it is essential to use accurate segmentation. Currently, most fingerprint image segmentations use methods with ridge orientation, ridge frequency, coherence, variance, local gradient, etc. check details This paper proposes a method of XFinger-Net for segmenting PDFIs. Based on U-Net, XFinger-Net inherits its characteristics. The attention gate with fewer parameters is used to replace the cascaded network, which can suppress uncorrelated regions of PDFIs. Moreover, the XFinger-Net implements a pixel-level segmentation and takes non-blocking fingerprint images as an input to preserve the global characteristics of PDFIs. The XFinger-Net can achieve a very good segmentation effect as demonstrated in the self-made fingerprint segmentation test.A nanostructured hybrid material consisting of TiO2 nanoparticles grown and stabilized on graphene oxide (GO) platelets, was synthesized and tested as nanofiller in a polymeric matrix of sulfonated polysulfone (sPSU) for the preparation of new and low-cost nanocomposite electrolytes for proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) applications. GO-TiO2 hybrid material combines the nanoscale structure, large interfacial area, and mechanical features of a 2D, layered material, and the hygroscopicity properties of ceramic oxides, able to maintain a suitable hydration of the membrane under harsh fuel cell operative conditions. GO-TiO2 was synthetized through a new, simple, one-pot hydrothermal procedure, while nanocomposite membranes were prepared by casting using different filler loadings. Both material and membranes were investigated by a combination of XRD, Raman, FTIR, thermo-mechanical analysis (TGA and Dynamic Mechanical Analysis) and SEM microscopy, while extensive studies on the proton transport properties were carried out by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) measurements and pulse field gradient (PFG) NMR spectroscopy. The addition of GO-TiO2 to the sPSU produced a highly stable network, with an increasing of the storage modulus three-fold higher than the filler-free sPSU membrane. Moreover, the composite membrane with 3 wt.% of filler content demonstrated very high water-retention capacity at high temperatures as well as a remarkable proton mobility, especially in very low relative humidity conditions, marking a step ahead of the state of the art in PEMs. This suggests that an architecture between polymer and filler was created with interconnected routes for an efficient proton transport.The effect of different drying techniques (freeze, convective, vacuum-microwave and combined drying) on the drying kinetics, the phytochemical compounds and sensory characteristics in loquat cultivar 'Algar' was studied. The convective drying resulted in the highest amount of total hydroxycinnamic acids (5077 mg/kg wet weight (ww)), with 3-caffeoyl quinic acid and 5-caffeoyl quinic acid being the greatest carotenoids. The highest values of total carotenoids were obtained by the freeze-drying technique (2601 mg/kg ww), followed by all convective treatments and vacuum-microwave at 360 W. The highest carotenoid was β-carotene. The ABTS+• (2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)) and FRAP (Ferric Ion Reducing Antioxidant Power) values ranged from 2.04 up to 3.27 mmol Trolox/100 g ww, and from 1.89 up to 2.29 mmol Trolox/100 g ww, respectively. As expected, the color difference of freeze-dried samples was the lowest (7.06), similar to combined drying conditions (9.63), whilst the highest value was found after convective drying (37.0). All treatments were sensory acceptable (no off-flavors). However, still, further research is needed to fully optimize these studied drying treatments because the freeze-dried sample still had higher carotenoid content and better instrumental color parameters. Although recently the impact of microwave drying has been studied, this is the first work comparing phytochemical composition of loquat fruit under the different drying methods mentioned above.The genus Lycoris (about 20 species) includes important medicinal and ornamental plants. Due to the similar morphological features and insufficient genomic resources, germplasm identification and molecular phylogeny analysis are very limited. Here, we sequenced the complete chloroplast genomes of L. chinensis, L. anhuiensis, and L. aurea; they have very similar morphological traits that make it difficult to identify. The full length of their cp genomes was nearly 158k bp with the same guanine-cytosine content of 37.8%. A total of 137 genes were annotated, including 87 protein-coding genes, 42 tRNAs, and eight rRNAs. A comparative analysis revealed the conservation in sequence size, GC content, and gene content. Some variations were observed in repeat structures, gene expansion on the IR-SC (Inverted Repeat-Single-Copy) boundary regions. Together with the cpSSR (chloroplast simple sequence repeats), these genetic variations are useful to develop molecular markers for germplasm identification. Phylogenetic analysis showed that seven Lycoris species were clustered into a monophyletic group, and closed to Narcissus in Amaryllidaceae. L. chinensis, L. anhuiensis, and L. longituba were clustered together, suggesting that they were very likely to be derived from one species, and had the same ancestor with L. squamigera. Our results provided information on the study of genetic diversity, origins or relatedness of native species, and the identification of cultivars.The stability of food supply chains is crucial to the food security of people around the world. It is safe to assume that the novel health crisis has badly struck the least developed and developing economies, where people are particularly vulnerable to hunger and malnutrition. However, due to the recency of the COVID-19 problem, the impacts of macroeconomic fluctuations on food insecurity have remained scantily explored. In this study, the authors attempted to bridge this gap by revealing interactions between the food security status of people and the dynamics of COVID-19 cases, food trade, food inflation, and currency volatilities. The study was performed in the cases of 45 developing economies distributed to three groups by the level of income.
