Over 40% of respondents reported having experienced abuse by the person they cared for, with the most common form of abuse being verbal abuse (35% of the respondents reporting abuse) and physical abuse (14%). The experience of abuse was related to poorer mental health as measured by the DASS-21 and a lower reported quality of life. Financial stress, lack of support and the negative impacts of care-giving were also significantly associated with mental health and well-being outcomes. The current research is among the first to directly assess the experience of abuse within a broad sample of caregivers, identifying this as a significant issue for caregivers. The findings have clear implications for programs and policies that protect the rights, safety and well-being of caregivers.This study explores how a three-way collaboration between a University library, writing centre and faculty created avenues of training and support for students within a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program in an American University. Spitzoid neoplasms in pediatric patients pose an interesting challenge for clinicians. More data on the clinical, histologic, and molecular characteristics of these lesions are necessary to distinguish features that may portend recurrence or malignant behavior to help determine future treatment guidelines in pediatric patients.
Institutional Review Board approval was obtained from Children's Hospital of Wisconsin to conduct a retrospective analysis of spitzoid neoplasms. Patients with biopsied or excised spitzoid neoplasms between 01/01/2000 and 08/01/2016 were included. Pertinent clinical and histologic data were collected. Atypical, unusual, or diagnostically uncertain lesions were selected for re-review.
266 lesions from 264 patients were included. 243 were classified as benign (91.35%), 22 as atypical (8.27%), and 1 as spitzoid melanoma (0.38%). No clinical or histologic variables were found to be statistically significant between the benign Spitz, atypical Spitz, and spitzoid melanoma cohorts. No known deaths occurred.
Our findings highlight the extreme variability of spitzoid neoplasms clinically and histologically. Importantly, this study demonstrates that the vast majority of spitzoid neoplasms in pediatric populations are benign and supports conservative management of spitzoid lesions in children.

Children (N = 1,115), on average 5.36 years old in first grade, were followed across primary school with measures of multi-method and multi-informant. Results of growth modeling demonstrated that poor executive function in first grade predicted high levels of both problems and a low rate of decline in externalizing problems over time, independent of the co-occurrence of both problems. Moreover, the impact of poor executive function on behavioral problems may be dependent on its association with disruptive social competence. Findings highlighted the interrelations of risk factors to understanding the development of behavioral problems in primary school.

In Experiment 2 (n = 42, 14-16 months), we explore the effect of toy properties, infants' past toy exposure, activity levels, and parental attitudes on such preferences using a wider range of toys. Infants at heightened risk (HR) for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) exhibit delays in sitting and differences in object exploration. However, little is known about the association between sitting and object exploration among HR infants. We examined changes in object exploration as HR infants (N = 19) and comparison infants with no family history of ASD (Low Risk; LR; N = 23) gained experience sitting independently. Infants were observed monthly from 2.5 months until 1 month after the onset of independent sitting. At 12, 18, 24, and 36 months, infants completed standardized developmental assessments, and HR infants were assessed for ASD symptoms at 36 months. Although HR infants began sitting later than LR infants, both groups increased time spent grasping, shaking, banging, and mouthing objects as they gained sitting experience. Groups only differed in time spent actively mouthing objects, with LR infants showing a greater increase in active mouthing than HR infants. Findings suggest that HR infants experience a similar progression of object exploration across sitting development, but on a delayed time scale.Theoretical models assume that parental knowledge about child development and caregiving motivates parental stimulation, shaping child development. Infant responses were coded for positive and negative affect, object and parent orientation, self-comforting, and escape behaviors during the task. Results showed a robust still-face effect, with infants displaying increased negative affect, decreased positive affect, increased self-comforting, object orientation, and escape behaviors during the "still-face" or phone distracted phase of the paradigm and frequently failing to return to baseline during the reunion phase. Older infants (older than 9 months) likewise demonstrated higher levels of negative affect across all three phases of the paradigm relative to younger infants (less than 9 months).
