Impact statement Venous valves prosthesis offer the potential to restore normal venous flow, and to improve the prospect of patients that suffer from chronic venous disease. Current venous valve replacements are associated with poor outcomes. A deeper understanding of the approaches attempted so far is essential to establish the next steps toward valve development, and importantly, tissue engineering constitutes a unique toolbox to advance in this quest.
The number of trauma systems has increased dramatically within the United States over the past 40years. The implementation of these systems has contributed to a decrease in mortality and improved outcomes in patients with trauma. Several studies have evaluated the effect of implementation of these systems on outcomes, but few studies examine the effects of such systems specifically on traumatic brain injury (TBI).
A systematic review of the literature was conducted according the guidelines for the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) to determine the effects of trauma system implementation and regionalization on mortality and other outcome measures in adult TBI. We sought to include both experimental and observational studies within the United States.
From 1983 to 2015, nine studies were identified that adhered to the predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria representing six different geographic areas within the United States. All studies utilized a retrospective pre-post implementation methodology. A variety of mortality outcome measures were identified in the literature. Six of the nine studies demonstrated some benefit on various mortality metrics.
The existing literature on the effects of trauma system implementation or regionalization on outcomes in TBI is sparse but overall seems to convey an improvement in mortality.

In the last century, metformin was discovered twice for its antiglycemic properties in addition to its antimalarial and anti-influenza effects. Metformin exhibits flip-flop pharmacokinetics with limited oral bioavailability. Sulbactam pivoxil concentration This review outlines metformin pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and recent advances in polymeric particulate delivery systems as a potential tool to target metformin delivery to specific tissues/organs. This interesting biguanide is being rediscovered this century for multiple clinical indications as anticancer, anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, anti-Alzheimer's and much more. Microparticulate delivery systems of metformin may improve its oral bioavailability and optimize the therapeutic goals expected. The goal of the study was to diagnose the needs of instructors working in the area of the digital inclusion of persons who are excluded, at risk of exclusion, marginalized, and discriminated against in terms of using new technologies. The research focused on the phenomenon of the digital divide as seen from the perspective of digital literacy educators of older adults. The study was conducted in 2019 in Poland, using a qualitative research methodology (a structured in-depth interview) and interpretative paradigm. The respondents were 8 specialists, educators of older adults, representing different types of institutions dealing with the digital divide a activity center, a public library, a nursing home, an NGO, and a University of the Third Age. Triangulation of the results led to several important conclusions regarding to the expectations, experiences, challenges and postulated supporting actions related to digital inclusion. Based on the results gathered, we have noticed that educators readily share their didactic and organizational experience. The respondents were open to the development of their own teaching competences, and recognized the role of lifelong learning. They often highlighted that the digital education of older adults is only one of many additional activities. The activities to improve the digital literacy of older adults are implemented as part of their non-formal education (i.e. it is carried out by educators holding no formal qualifications). For this reason, the teachers expect content-related and methodological support most of all, as well as the promotion of the idea of lifelong education (including digital literacy development) in society. Background A novel multicomponent complex (MC) of ketoconazole (KET) with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and N-acetylcysteine (NAC) was developed with the purpose of improving the solubility as well as the antifungal and antibiofilm activity of KET against Candida albicans. Results & methodology The interactions among the components were studied using nuclear magnetic resonance, thermal analysis, powder x-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Phase-solubility studies demonstrated a considerable increase in the solubility of the MC. An enhancement in antibiofilm and antifungal activity of MC was determined against C. albicans by XTT assay and microbiological studies. Conclusion This MC, with improvements in the drug pharmaceutical performance, might have an important potential in the development of new pharmaceutical formulations of KET.Participation is a right and a key pillar of the active aging paradigm. This systematic review aimed to understand how older people's participation is conceptualized and to detail results regarding older people's perspective about their participation in the context of social and health care services. Twenty-one articles published between 1996 and 2015 were analyzed. The main findings suggested that diverse terminology is used to conceptualize older people's participation; however, all shared a vision of respecting a citizen's autonomy. Older people tend to have a paternalistic perspective although most seek more information and discussion on treatment options. Positive relations with providers enabled negotiation to address individual aspirations, though services tended to be pre-formatted suggesting low levels of adjustment to individual needs and aspirations. Thus, older people and those working with them need training in order to enable participation. In addition, services need to be more flexible to allow users to participate.
