Oligometastatic cancer is recognized as a separate entity within the spectrum of metastatic disease. It was suggested that patients with oligometastatic disease can obtain long-term survival by giving local ablative therapy (LAT) to all visible disease locations. However, the true extent from which metastatic cancer should be called "oligometastatic" is unknown, although a consensus definition for oligometastatic disease is proposed by research organizations, such as the EORTC (maximum of five metastases in three organs). Different states of the oligometastatic disease are defined, such as synchronous vs. metachronous, oligopersistent vs. oligoprogressive disease. All clinical trials including patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are small and most are not randomized. Two small randomized phase II trials on synchronous disease showed an improvement in progression free survival, with the addition of LAT, and one also demonstrated an overall survival benefit. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) were not part of the treatment in these trials, while ICI significantly improved long-term outcomes of patients with metastatic NSCLC. Radiotherapy might improve the prognosis of patients treated with ICI because of its immunostimulatory effects and the possibility to eradicate metastatic deposits. Here, we summarize the data for adding ablative radiotherapy to the treatment of oligometastatic NSCLC, especially in the ICI era, and discuss the challenges of combined treatment.Severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) leads to numerous inflammatory and nutritional disturbances. click here All SAP patients are at a high nutritional risk. Volatile compounds secreted by bacteria during their metabolic process can be dissected to evaluate bacterial contamination. Indole, as a major volatile molecule released by Escherichia coli (E. coli), was chosen to examine the presence of E. coli in this research. In this work, a graphene field-effect transistor (G-FET) was employed to detect the volatile molecule-indole based on a π-π stacking interaction between the indole and the graphene. The exposure of G-FET devices to the indole provokes a change in electrical signal, which is ascribed to the adsorption of the indole molecule onto the graphene surface via π-π stacking. The adsorption of the indole causes a charge rearrangement of the graphene-indole complex, which leads to changes in the electrical signal of G-FET biosensors with a different indole concentration. Currently, the indole biosensor can detect indole from 10 ppb to 250 ppb and reach a limit of detection of 10 ppb for indole solution detection. We believe that our detection strategy for detecting bacterial metabolic gas molecules will pave a way to developing an effective platform for bacteria detection in food safety monitoring.The influence of technological factors on the process of slag splashing was analyzed in the paper. The problems were solved in several stages using our own and commercial calculation programs and laboratory tests. Based on the performed calculations and simulations, factors affecting the slag splashing were determined. It was observed that the high efficiency of the process can be achieved by optimizing numerous technological parameters, e.g., flow parameters, pressure, and temperature of the nitrogen stream, height and angle of the lance position, as well as slag height into which the gas stream enters and MgO consumption. In addition, the chemical and mineralogical composition of the slag and its physicochemical parameters should be also considered. The obtained results of numerical simulations of slag splashing in the oxygen converter coincide with the results of experiments carried out using the physical model of oxygen converter. This means that the simulations well represent the real course of the slag splashing process for the studied variants.The extent to which familism, dysfunctional thoughts, and coping variables contribute to explaining feelings of loneliness in caregivers, controlling for kinship, is analyzed. Participants were 273 family caregivers of people with dementia. Sociodemographic variables, familism, dysfunctional thoughts, coping strategies for requesting and receiving help, perceived social support, and leisure activities were assessed. The fit of a theoretical model for explaining the effect of cultural and psychological variables on feelings of loneliness in each kinship group was tested. No significant differences in the distribution of loneliness by kinship were found. Higher levels of familism are associated with more dysfunctional thoughts, that are linked to more maladaptive strategies for coping with caring (e.g., less social support and fewer leisure activities). This in turn is associated with higher scores in the feeling of loneliness. The model bore particular relevance to the group of daughters, husbands, and sons, yet not in the case of wives. Sociocultural and coping factors associated with the caring process seem to play an important role in explaining feelings of loneliness in caregivers. Transcriptomics of the plant during the interaction with Fo47 shows the induction of distinct set of genes in pepper and tomato. The number of differentially expressed (DE) genes in pepper (231 DE genes) is greater than the number of DE genes in tomato (39 DE genes) at 2 days after the treatment with Fo47. Ethylene related genes were present among the DE genes in both plants, and the up-regulation of ethylene biosynthetic genes was observed to be triggered during the interaction of both plants with Fo47. The treatment with MCP (1-Methylcyclopropene, an ethylene-competitive inhibitor) reduced the Fo47 protection in pepper against Verticillium dahliae. Intriguingly, Fo47 was able to protect the ethylene-insensitive tomato mutant Never-ripe (Nr) against Verticillium dahliae, but not the tomato wilt type cv Pearson. Overall, ethylene is shown to be an important player in the response to Fo47, but its role depends on the host species.
