This novel antimicrobial combination offers a useful treatment option for high-risk patients with CPE infection, with reduced drug interactions and toxicity.Shape-switching behavior, where a transient stimulus induces an indefinitely stable deformation that can be recovered on exposure to another transient stimulus, is critical to building smart structures from responsive polymers as continue power is not needed to maintain deformations. Herein, we 4D-print shape-switching liquid crystalline elastomers (LCEs) functionalized with supramolecular crosslinks, dynamic covalent crosslinks, and azobenzene. The salient property of shape-switching LCEs is that light induces long-lived, deformation that can be recovered on-demand by heating. UV-light isomerizes azobenzene from trans to cis, and temporarily breaks the supramolecular crosslinks, resulting in a programmed deformation. After UV, the shape-switching LCEs fix more than 90 % of the deformation over 3 days by the reformed supramolecular crosslinks. Using the shape-switching properties, we print Braille-like actuators that can be photoswitched to display different letters. This new class of photoswitchable actuators may impact applications such as deployable devices where continuous application of power is impractical.
To investigate the effect of the sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitor dapagliflozin on glucose levels overnight and during the following day after two unannounced meals under full closed loop (FCL) conditions.
For this single-centre, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, cross-over trial, non-obese persons with type 1 diabetes (T1D) were studied twice (10 mg dapagliflozin bid vs. placebo) for 24 hours with two unannounced mixed meal tests 6 hours apart under FCL conditions. Primary outcome was sensor glucose time in range (TIR; 3.9-10 mmol/L). For safety evaluation, ß-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), glucagon, insulin and gastric inhibitory polypeptide were measured.
Fifteen adolescents (aged 15.4 ± 1.6 years, diabetes duration 10.0 ± 3.4 years, HbA1c 8.4% ± 0.9% [67.7 ± 10.1 mmol/mol]) and 15 young adults (aged 18.7 ± 0.8 years; diabetes duration 12.5 ± 3.6 years; HbA1c 8.3% ± 0.9% [68.5 ± 11.2 mmol/mol]) completed the trial. TIR was significantly higher in the intervention group compared with placebo (68% ± 6% vs. 50% ± 13%; P < .001); nocturnal glucose was significantly lower with dapagliflozin (6.2 ± 0.7 vs. 7.3 ± 1.7 mmol/L; P = .003) without an increase in time at less than 3.9 mmol/L (3.3% ± 6.0% vs 3.1% ± 5.2%; P = .75). Urinary glucose excretion was increased 3-fold using dapagliflozin (149 ± 42 vs. 49 ± 23 g/24 hours) with a total insulin reduction of 22% (39.7 ± 12.7 vs. 30.6 ± 10.4 U; P = .004). No abnormal elevated BHB values were observed.
In adolescents and adults with T1D, dapagliflozin significantly increased TIR on average by 259 minutes/day while reducing glycaemic variability during FCL control without any signs of hypoglycaemia or ketosis.

To describe COVID-19 deaths among children and adolescents in Sergipe, Brazil.
Ecological study of all COVID-19 reported cases and deaths occurring in children and adolescents<19years of age in Sergipe reported by the health surveillance and mortality information systems of Sergipe's Health Secretary and hospital records.
Of 37 deaths of children<19years old were reported up to 30 September 2020, corresponding to 4.87 deaths for 100000 population<19years old. Most deaths occurred among infants (44.1/100000), and this age group had the highest case fatality rate (15.3 %). CAL-101 price Most children had comorbidities such as chronic neurological diseases (n=7; 19%) and prematurity (n=4; 11%). Most children who died (n=18; 49%) were not admitted to intensive care units (ICUs).
COVID-19 mortality in children and adolescents in Sergipe was higher than in other Brazilian states and in high-income countries. A large proportion of the deaths occurred among children with comorbidities and a minority of children were admitted to ICU, reflecting the limited provision of such beds in the State. Newborns and infants are a high-risk group that must have priority in health public policy.

However, almost all of these reactions employ an oligonucleotide-templated approach that is based on the double-helix alignment. The moderate stability of the double helix makes this approach unsuitable for many chemical reactions, so alternative nucleic acid alignment mechanisms, demonstrating higher thermal and chemical stability, are desirable. Earlier, we described a noncovalent coupling mechanism between DNA strands through a quadruplex-and-Mg2+ connection (QMC). QMC is based on G-quadruplexes and allows unusually stable and specific interactions. Herein, a novel catalytic nucleic acid reaction, based on QMC, is described. This approach uses G-tetrads as a structural and recognition element without employing Watson-Crick complementarity rules at any stage of substrate/catalyst formation or interaction between them. Quadruplex-templated ligation can be achieved through the self-ligation of two nucleic acid strands, or through a quadruplex catalyst, which forms a G-triplex and specifically connects the strands. The process is extraordinarily robust and efficient. For instance, the ligation of carbodiimide-activated substrates can proceed in boiling solutions, and complete ligation is demonstrated within a minute. The quadruplex-templated and catalyzed reactions will create new opportunities for chemical reactions requiring harsh experimental conditions.
